Sunday/ Monday October 8th-9th

The Sunday night before we left we were given permission to go over to the resort and hang out at the bar/ rec room. They had live entertainment. It was a couple with a guitar playing some throw back classics, they were actually quite good. There were a couple of pool tables and a giant chess board outside. I played a game of pool against a couple resort guests, an eight year old girl and her mom. Let me say it was a pretty evenly matched game with due to my amazing aptitude for the game of pool. In Australia they do not label the pool balls by stripes or solids but by bigs and smalls, I was quite confused by this for the first couple minutes of the game. That night as we were walking back to the research station from the resort we took a little detour out to the beach and just laid on the sand looking up at the stars. They were so bright and brilliant looking. The starts had never seemed so big before in my entire life. The next morning we got a tour of the islands desalination plant. It

was quiet interesting to learn how the island got its water and how expensive it is to run a business on an island. After lunch that day we loaded up our bags and boarded the ferry again to head home. This time the ferry ride was smooth. There was hardly bump for the entire two hour ride. Because the waves were so calm we were allowed to sit up on the top deck this time. We stood outside and watched as the island disappeared behind us saying goodbye to my favorite week so far in Australia. I will remember this week on Heron Island for the rest of my life
