Hi All and welcome to the latest sager in the Jellybean's short history!!! I thought finishing work would be the best thing ever and I could just sit around and relax until the birth, sadly not so……
Ok so it's not quite as dramatic as that but we have had a busy couple of weeks. It all began with a scan done at 32 weeks where we discovered that the Jellybean is quite large...yeah yeah I know what a shock! But then our doctor told us that the hospital may want to take over our care after our 36 week appointment and that they may look at inducing if they are concerned. So off we went to our 36 week appointment a little anxious but not too worried! After sitting there again for a couple of hours we were finally called in to see the doctor. We had our usual check up and heard the heartbeat...something I never get tired of hearing!!! Then she showed us on a chart the growth of the Jellybean which, although in the acceptable range was beginning to creep towards huuuuuge!!! So she booked us in for another scan just to check how much more
Close UpThe top band records uterus movements, the bottom band records the Jellybean's heart rate and I push the buzzer in my hand records the Jellybean moves
he'd grown in the past 4 weeks.
Drama of course followed! The doctor at the hospital told us that we could simply use the form she had given us at our usual scan place, but of course when we went there, they said they don’t accept hospital referrals and we should get a referral from our GP and come back. Thankfully I could get into see our GP that afternoon and get a referral, but again drama ensued… I called to make an appointment and I was promptly told that the referring GP needed to be a specialist in obstetrics…which of course our GP is not… After calling the hospital and leaving messages everywhere I thought of we gave up. The next day someone from the hospital called and said we could have the scan done at the hospital (surely this would have been easier if they told me this 2 days ago! But any way).
So we finally had our appointment and of course the jellybean then decides to go into hiding!!! Yep that’s right our jellybean is misbehaving already!!! After an hour long scan this is the good news. The Jellybean is head first, sitting low
CTG MachineIf you look closely you can see the Jellybean's heart rate was 133. The top of the print out shows the uterus movements, dashes in the middle show where I have pressed the buzzer and the bottom is the
... [more]and pretty much ready to go, with his spine running along my belly button. His heartbeat is strong and there are no abnormalities. But his head is big… CRAP! And the scan lady did not see any “practice” breathing movements (apparently they practice breathing while they are still in the womb). But she assures me that when babies are sleeping (which apparently the Jellybean was) they tend not to practice and it’s nothing to worry about.
The next day we go to the Antenatal Clinic at the hospital…yet again and wait and wait and wait. The doctor says she is happy with everything and all looks good and we wont have to be induced (woo hoo!!). But she is concerned that there were no practice breathing movements recorded. WHAT!!! So she want’s us to book in for a CTG Scan on Saturday just to be cautious. She tried to book us in for the scan but was told that we need to ring up on Saturday morning to see when they can fit us in. So I dutifully call on Saturday at 8am as requested and was told they were far to busy delivering babies at the moment and
had no beds at the inn and to call back after lunch. I called again at 12.30 and they were still busy delivering babies!!! “Can you call back again at 4 dear?”. I call again at 4 “Oh would you mind trying again at 7, the change of shift comes on then and they might be able to see you later”. Thankfully when I Call at 7 they can see us! So we drop everything and head in. We were shown into a private room (hopefully I’ll get one of those when the Jellybean arrives too haha chances) and was hooked up to the CTG Machine. I must admit to being a little bit nervous when we were first hooked up to the machine as the midwife explained what everything was and that if she wasn’t happy with the scan they would call in for backup!!! But thankfully after ½ an hour hooked up to the monitor the Jellybean was declared fit and well and we were discharged.
So hopefully now it will be smooth sailing for the last couple of weeks, yes that’s right COUPLE of weeks. And the Jellybean will be here just in time for Schoolies week!
Hope everyone is well

Good news. Seems like a little bit of stress dealing with the hospital system and the prliminaries, but come the big day you will get all the attention you need. You'll note that when you have been seeking a bit of extra assistance the doctors have all been tied up delivering the babies.
Now, where was he hiding when they did the picture show? He does sound like he might be a handful.
luv ya Tibby and Bruce
Don't you just love waiting in hospitals!!!! I'm very excited for you, just a little bit longer and we'll all get to see what a Jellybean looks like after it's been in your belly for 9ish months!!! eeeeuuuu :) So, big baby's are on who's side of the family?!! Hugs Cindy
