It’s our first night together after 127 days apart. In early January, Helen went to Mt Isa in the outback of Queensland on a four month contract to work in the town hospital’s intensive care unit while I finished up a two year project with BECA for the Samoan Government helping villages prepare local coastal infrastructure management plans to improve their resilience to natural disasters like cyclones and global warming.
It feels magical looking out from our 11th floor apartment in the Oriana, right on the coast at Surfers Paradise. It’s the exact same place we stayed as a family for the Worlds Fair back in 1988. I cannot believe my eyes. Helen is as beautiful as ever.
