Final Entry - The End Of The Road Well, this is it! The last blog entry for our, almost two year, trek around Oz. After leaving Adelaide we travelled through the towns along the Murray River. We made visits to Mannum, Walkers Flat, Renmark, Blanchetown and Echuca. Once again the weather was kind to us and the “Mighty Murray” was great to see. The “PS Murray Princess” was in dock at Mannum and was a magic sight. PS standing for “Paddle Steamer”. We took a trip up the river at Echuca, where the Murray is significantly narrower and dirtier than at Renmark. Nevertheless we ticked yet another box. From Echuca we headed for Bendigo where we caught up with my sister Jean’s son Steven. He was recovering from a serious back injury after being thrown from ... read more

Here we go again….. Well, we’ve been on the Gold Coast now for almost three months and it’s time for us to head of on our travels again. We are due to be on Phillip Island by 22nd December for our family Xmas with Pete, Laura and the two families. Everyone will converge for a few days of Christmas cheer and I’ve no doubt there will be a bit of rivalry between the Aussies and Kiwis, not to mention the odd Pom??? We have had a great time here and enjoyed being near our family and friends again. The stays in the van by our lovely grand children have been special as was the “posh dinner” at Omeros Brothers with our oldest granddaughter, Tiarne (15!!). We’ve been lucky enough to celebrate Ellie’s birthday, Melbourne Cup day ... read more

Currumbin Valley is BLISS. Ellie and I are well and truly settled into Currumbin Valley Eco-Village and absolutely loving the homestay with our host family. Ellie has a new bestfriend in five year old Pia (perhaps the other way round) and I am getting the garden well and truly in order. The Eco-Village has a great community spirit and we are being made to feel very welcome. The garden has plenty going on (it was horrendously overgrown) and has plenty of banana trees which are producing bunch after bunch. The other day I took off 5 bunches and am currently the envy of the rest of the village as other gardens seem to be only yielding one or two every few months. I said to the owner here, Rob, that he should set up a stall ... read more

This month has been a busy one for our little girl. Since I have started studying Kayla has had to start kindy. She has taken to it quite well, the first two or three times there were tears but after that she has been fine. I managed to get her into a kindy right next to the school where I'm studying so that has been handy! I even managed to pick up a couple of relief shifts at a kindy next to where Noah goes and was able to get Kayla in for one of the days there which was great. I had two days work at the Kindy and it was a lot of fun I was in the junior kindy room which is 2-3 years olds, Charlene the normal room assistant commented on how ... read more

She started taking the bottle at night, then I by shear fluke I tried giving her solid food first then giving her a bottle or feeding her afterwards and hey presto she slept through the night! woot woot!!!! Kayla has slept through now most nights for the whole month! Waking sometimes with the heat etc but mostly sleeping YAY!!!! This month has also been an exciting one for me. I've gone back to school! I was looking on seek (a job serach website) and saw an add for a FREE course in childcare and thought I'd ring and find out more. Last Saturday morning we decided to change our travel plans, ie, going to Europe instead of the Middle-East, it just doesn't seem to be the time going there at the moment with all the turmoil going on. We're now hiring a campervan in Duesseldorf for 10 weeks, driving to Spain and Portugal. Then flying from Duesseldorf to Rhodes to backpack around the Greek Islands for a couple of months as we originally had planned. Finally, we're having a month in Denmark to catch up with family and friends. Tuesday, March 1 at 2.40 we're flying out of Brisbane to Singapore, where we'll have a couple of nights before heading north to the cold! We'll keep you posted. ... read more

After selling abolutely everything apart from a suitcase of clothes I was completely taken by surprise at the domestic airpost when I was told I was 5kg over weight!!! Well of course I am it's Christmas! The flight attendant smiled sweetly whilst charging me a whopping $10 per kilo I was over in my luggage. (thank heavens because personally, I'd say I was around 10) So here I in a motel room on the gold coast now deliberating about the keepers & throwers of a collection of items I had already declared "my essentials". My goal is to get my luggage under 20kg. Two hours later...minus one pair of jeans, two bikinis, 2 singlets, 2 t'shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 2 dresses, 3 bras, 5 pairs of nylon undies, one bag of assorted cosmetics & one ... read more
