Yes it's offical Fiko is an Australian Citizen!
after attending his citizenship ceremony at the Gold Coast Arts Centre today.
We were greeted by the musical sounds of the Blenders (a group of 60 somethings) singing some Australian classics! Then it was time for Fiko to pledge his allegence to the flag (ok so that's the wrong country but it sounds good!) lead by the Mayor Ron Clarke.
From this time forward,
I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people,
whose democratic beliefs I share,
whose rights and liberties I respect, and
whose laws I will uphold and obey. Congratulations you are now an AUSTRLIAN CITIZEN!!!
then we were introduced to a young boy who was there to gain his citizenship who was going to hand out the flags to all the new citizens before they recieved their certificates. Needless to say this young boy was hallarious! Waving flags putting them in his mouth to hand people! After a short while the boredom seemed to get to him as he asked everyone to "hurry up peoples!" Thankfully the process of getting the 70 or so new citizens their certificates was a relatively speedy process.
Made all the more enjoyable by the young boy (can you tell I've forgotten his name already??? damn mumnesia) and his facts "I know when federation was...1901" and "I know who the first Prime Minister of Australia was...Edmon Barton" but when he was asked by the compare if he know who the Prime Minister of Australia is now he simply shrugged! Then he was stripped of his citizenship and sent home .... hahaha only kidding!
The ceremony concluded with everyone singing the National Athem (the real one that is :0). All the new citizens were also given a beautiful bottle brush to plant in the gardens and treated to an afternoon tea of lamingtons, ANZAC biscuits, pies with sauce and of course VEGEMITE sandwhiches!!!
All in all a great day!
Hope all is well with all of you...
Lots of Love
