Hello all, yes its been a long time between drinks but Carissa and I have been keeping busy. Since we last spoke Carissa and I have rounded out our time in Mackay, loaded up the trusty Hiace and made our way back down the east coast to Sydney. We couldn't help but notice just how cold it seemed to get upon crossing back into NSW. Cheeky Queenslanders- not only do they rob us of the state of origin but they dont seem to have a winter either! We enjoyed our time in Mackay, however I was pleased to put the shovel down after 10 weeks (there is only so many times you can dig holes before it starts to lose its appeal). On a side note if ever you are passing through Mackay stop and check out the new free public lagoon in the CBD complete with waterfall and waterslide, very impressive.
Upon leaving Mackay we stopped to visit friends in Gladstone before moving on to camp a night at the idyllic location of 1770 and Agnus Water, the highest location for surf on the east coast (or so I'm told). However it didn't seem to be the case when we were there. We continued our journey south arriving at beautiful Hervey Bay where we were treated to a magnificent sunset as we rode our bikes along the esplanade and out along the jetty ay Urangan.
The following day we had organised a self drive 3 day 4WD tour of Fraser Island. To make up numbers I was told Carissa and I had been paired with two swedish backpackers... I thought he was joking until we were introduced to Amelie and Frieda. So began the toughest three days of my life, belting around Fraser in a 4WD, the sun shining, stunning beaches and swimming spots and to top it all off we were fortunate to see whales breaching off the beach at Indian Head.
Bidding Fraser farewell Carissa and I continued south to Rainbow Beach before staying with our good mate Ed at his folks beautifully restored queenslander on their property outside of Gympie. Carissa jokingly made a remark about whether Better Homes and Gardens had been through - turns out the property was recently featured in a country living magazine.
From Gympie we overnighted in Arrawarra where I finally got my surf fix. It never fails to disappoint. Our last stop was Avoca (thanks Ollie and Aani) before finally arriving home for a whirlwind couple of days of catching up with friends and family. We are now off to Africa for 5 weeks, where we will be spending the first 2 weeks with Carissa's parents in Kenya who are preaching at a number of churches before we take a few days to wander the savannah on safari.

Until next time
