Today we set off on a walk from Cooktown to see some local lookouts. We vastly underestimated what we were getting ourselves in for as a lot of the journey was up steep inclines but the rewards were there to be had.
The views from Grassy Hill looking out over Cooktown and the surrounding areas were sensational and from there we walked through some wet tropic areas to Cherry Tree Bay and Finch Bay. Kind of surreal seeing nothing but trees and tropical plants and then all of a sudden walking out onto white sandy beaches.
After nearly two and a half hours of hiking the Botanic Gardens Cafe provided ample sustenance though I am not sure if iced coffees and avocado and lime cheesecake were the nutritional end game we had in mind.
Back at the campsite we got the fire going again and Rachel experimented with baked potatoes and a tasty dessert.....they were a complete success of course. And what is a camp fire without toasting marshmellows. Sugar overload.
