After our reunion Penny and I decided to get some grub we found a backpackers (PJ Murphy's) that did steak and mash for $5 if you bough a beer or wine. As good as this sounds it took 1hour 15min to actually get our food and we had to go and chase it up twice. But the food was good when it finally came. Thursday was a relaxing day planning the rest of my trip which although unlike me was needed as I wanted to book flights to Ayres Rock and change my flights so I could spend some more time in New Zealand. But I have managed to get everything booked and changed so it was a vrey productive day. At night we met up with some Australian frined that Penny had met on a ... read more

What a great way to end my time in Australia. Everything kind of seemed to fall right into place on the last weekend here, leaving me with nothing but perfect memories - randomly running into the Glam-Packers and the Dutch girls and getting a last chance to say bye to them, meeting the Irish girls on my tour and walking the second best beach (behind Whitehaven, obvi) at Cape Tribulation, down to the point where the rainforest meets the reef. The Daintree Rainforest itself is the second oldest virgin rainforest in the world (after the Amazon) and we still don't know tons about it. The one thing I've learned however, is that fresh coconut milk is a great way to replenish a hangover, even if it means needing Tommy John surgery from all the rocks ... read more

Our last trip in OZ is to cape tribulation, beautiful rainforrest and white sandy beaches, probably even more beautiful with blue sky and without rain .. But still we had 2 nice and very relaxing days wandering along the beach and reading around the swimming pool. We couldn,t swim in the sea due to the jelly fish and the sharks. Our first night we realized that our rescue course was even more intense than we thought... one jug of beer during happy hour was enough to fall asleep.. the next day we only read a book waiting to get our bus back to cairns.. Onze laatste dagen in australie besteden we in cape tribulation, ten noorden van cairns. Op de heenweg stoppen we voor een boottrip over de rivier om krokodillen te spotten. Al snel ... read more

By 8am we were on our way, Our first stop was at Mossman Gorge, were we had a short walk to the river for photos, I attempted to get some Peter Lik inspired ones but he obviously has a better camera than i do. But even so the scenery is that nice i still managed to get some good ones and a couple of arty ones too. We then had breakfast at one of the picnic tables there before heading to Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation. After crossing the Daintree River our first destination was Kimberly beach, which was deserted, there wasn't a soul there, so we made the beach our own for a short while relaxing in the sun before heading to Alexander Range Lookout for yet more photos. We had lunch at Thortons ... read more

After our diving we hired a campervan and headed up the coast to Cape Tribulation which was where one of Captain Cook's ships had trouble with a reef. The drive up the coast was amazing with most of the road being right next to the beach and the views were superb. We didn't stop for photos on the way though because Kathy thought that the ferry we needed to take across the Daintree river stopped at five (this didn't turn out to be the case though). The ferry managed to get us safely across without being eaten by saltwater crocodiles or "salties" and we spent the first night at a National Park camp ground - just a toilet and some gravel parking areas in the rainforest really. It was quite scary leaving the camper here ... read more

The first stop on my whirlwind east coast road trip was Cairns... and as I stepped of the plane to blue sky and sunshine I found life already felt a world away from work and Sydney. I had an afternoon to pass in the 'city' before hitting the road and spent most of it just wondering around. With a population of just 140,000 or so I'd hesitate to call Cairns a 'city', indeed walking round the city centre seemed to take all of about 20mins.... assuming of course you didn't get lured into one of the 3 zillion travel agents that occupy the centre... each offering the same tours as the next but with an occasional added twist to what freebies they might throw in. Having done the loop a couple of times I headed off ... read more

Hot+humid=Tel-Aviv. Hot+humid+wet=tropical rain forests. Makes all the difference. Every square inch covered with vegetation. And all this green is truly spectacular. Especially since it's all concentrated near the ocean, as tropical beaches are really a sight for sore eyes. Green and blue splendor. And since, as a guide I heard said, it's not Africa here, a lot of it is very accessible. Best example - one day I took a series of cable cars all the way up to a village in the mountains called Kuranda, surrounded by rain forest. Of course, the other side of it is that it's also highly touristic, but I got used to that by now. Besides, the diversity of plant life and animals species is mind blowing. I've personally seen - about a dozen different kinds of cool spiders ... read more

Hi everyone Cape Tribualtion Week Well how to begin is the question? Angie and I have been to Northern Queensland - Cape Tribulation this past week and totally out of communication with everyone…no mobile reception, pay phones not working and there was some café that had internet but we were always passing by when it was closed and busy doing sightseeing thingys. It was so laid back that not only did we not watch TV we never even saw a TV set!!! And no newspapers either. So here I am back in Sydney at Angela and Ed’s - got back from Cairns late last night from Cairns - it is Sunday and tomorrow I go by bus to Forster- Tuncurry, NSW up North from Sydney to stay with Michael’s cousin, Jenny for my last 2 weeks ... read more

Steve, Vicky, Ryan and Libby headed off to Sydney for a few days, and we continued north to explore the Daintree region and Cape Tribulation. North of the Daintree river it rained harder and longer than it ever had in Cairns, and our plans to do some more snorkelling on the reef were thwarted by bad weather, but the scenery was magnificent - the rainforest rolling right down onto pristine golden beaches. If only it wasn't for the salt water crocodiles and lethal jellyfish - no swimming here! ... read more

Cape Tribulation is home to the oldest rainforest in the world. Our bus trip up to "Cape Trib" took about four hours along some fantastic coastal road and across the Daintree River. We made a few stops along the way to check out some of the flora and fauna. This included a stop at a cool little animal park/zoo where saw some crocodiles, large pythons, and met our first cassowary. The cassowary is a huge bird similar to an ostrich or emu however it has this weird mohawkish headpiece and a huge talon on its foot. Watch out! They look nice but they can get you! Looking back, the bus trip to Cape Trib was really more of a four hour disclaimer... Coming into contact with almost everything up here could get you air vac'd ... read more
