We had an awesome five days up in Cairns with Leithal and Phillma, Erin's sister and brother in law (and James' too now) and it was extremely relaxing. I hadn't been to Cairns for five years approximately (?) and had never been to their new house in the rainforest in Bayview Heights. Wow - what an amazing place - it's seriously like a treehouse amongst the tropical rainforest. It is all made of wood, there are logs and trees making up the frame of the house and there are loads of rooms and bits of sections everywhere.
It rained the whole time we were there, which gave us time (and the excuse) to do very little and chill out without guilt. However, we did get out and about enough to paint Port Douglas town red, as well as a night out in Cairns on Easter Sunday.
Port Douglas was great. Leith and Phill shouted James and I a night in an amazing hotel thingy right on the main street so we didn't have far to stagger after our massive night out. We danced and partied, ate and drank, and I think James and I were last seen sitting out
the front of the Iron Bar after it had closed singing pissed songs with a band of merry Irish lasses at about 4.30 in the morning. :-)
It's amazing how you remember the words to random songs when you're several sheets to the wind - it's like extreme focus amidst a bludgy slur.
We took a drive up to Yorky's Knob for lunch, which was gorgeous. And we went to the Port Douglas markets the day after our night out. Phill got us all a back stage pass on an official Customs vessel which had been out on the high seas ridding our coastline of drug traffickers and boat people, and we got a full tour inside from one of the young seamen. Not every day you get to do that!
Best of all, it was great hanging out with Leith and Phill at their relaxing home. They are such great hosts - and I always feel so welcome and comfortable there and in their company. I don't get to spend much time with Leith with her being so far from Sydney, and me being so far from everyone in my family most of my adult years, so
any time I get to spend with her is golden.
Thanks for the memories sis..! Love you!
