We set off down the coast again arriving in Hervey Bay with intentions of travelling over to Fraser Island ( the world's largest sand island where they don't let you on without a 4 wheel drive), for Andy's 30th birthday. Unfortunately we arrived too late to arrange this so Andy spent his birthday getting the air con in the van fixed (for the 2nd time), watching the safety video explaining how not to get your 4x4 washed away into shark infested waters on Fraser Island, and spent the night in a caravan park in Torquay, having had a slap up meal of fish and chips. The next day though we set off bright and early to pick up our 4x4 (a Hilux, naturally) and caught the first ferry over to Fraser Island. We commenced our ve-ry ... read more

After a few days hanging around Maroochydore, we are heading north to go to either Fraser Island next or the Whitsunday Islands. Not really sure. We stayed in Bargera, which is on the coast about 15 minutes from Bundaberg. It was a nice campground across the street from the beach, with a skatepark there too. Definately not to busy right now. We have been just rolling into most spots and not having a problem getting a campsite which is good. Weather was pretty windy, and more bugs here. You could hear the screams from me and Maggie in Brisbane as we crossed the grass field at night to go to the bathroom. Here we are thinking it some killer snake wraped around our ankle, then in the daylight we see it is just some dried up ... read more

We set off very earlie today as we need to be in town to meet a lady about picking tomatoes. Bad has a swollen mouth so the drugs he is taking does not allow him to drive, so yes its girl power all the way today, the weather is miserable none stop rain, so as you can imagine we are so not up for camping. On arrival we headed straight for a camp site to ask if they had a cabin, and as luck would have it they did so we stayed the night in comfort, just as well as it rained solid all night long. We headed over to Elliots Head to set up camp, which was beautiful, the camp was on top of a beach which was small but quant. Then we headed into ... read more

Lots of great videos, photos and stories at: www.svlavie.blogspot.com Well it’s been over 2 months since the last update and we have had a complete change of plans. Instead of going to the Solomon Islands for Cyclone season, we decided to head to Australia. We had a wonderful 7 day passage getting here (caught a white tip shark on the way!). We got here last Friday and are in the Port of Bundaberg, the rum capital of Australia. But that’s lost on us as neither one of us care much for that particular poison. After leaving Port Vila in September we tried to get to the very north most remote islands of Vanuatu, the Banks, at a rapid clip. There was an indigenous Festival there that we wanted to get to. It took us several days ... read more

About 120Km to Bundaberg today. Population around 48,000. Went to look at a cooperage where they are salvaging old oak casks and turning them into small barrels for home use. Then went to ginger beer factory where they now make lots of different soft drinks, 14 I think. ... read more

Well, now we are the east coast and heading down there is so much to see and do I don't really know where to start. From Rockhampton we went to Lake Monduran and Trevor enjoyed a day fishing on the huge lake with a fellow camper we met, he was fishing for Barramundi but sadly it was sausages for tea that night, again !!! Next we made our base at Hervey Bay and travelled out from there. We had an interesting visit to the Bundaberg Rum Factory with a tipple at the end of the tour, only a small one mind you!!! The beautiful places we visited are almost too numerous to mention so I will just pick out a few with the reasons they were special. Maryborough was fascinating, the town is clean and settled ... read more

The Last Supper Okay, so we arrived in Bundaburg thinking we were going to carry out 3 months agricultural work, which would enable us to extend our Working Holiday Visa for an extra year. That plan didn't quite work out! All five of us rocked up just before dusk to a dingy run down hostel, called Blue Dingo. As soon as we arrived we had an icky feeling. Once we were booked in were told stories about the place, which didnt help either, and found out that we may not make it through the night! We would definately be keeping our doors locked! Under one of the bunkbeds a note was etched into the wood..."...I just want to be at home with my mum..." To escape we decided to go out for dinner, our "last Supper" ... read more
