With a name like Banana, just had to stop here for the night.

Anyway back to Mundubbera - its a fruit and grape growing region and the mandarin picking is just about to start. There were about 5 vans/tents in the whole campground, but in a month they'll be full for the ensuing 6 months with fruitpickers.

On the 5th we cycled all the town in the morning - took about 15 mins and one advantage was that we could check the price of diesel at both gas stations. We're paying just over !.50 per litre - but there is no road tax.

The Burnett River is just south of the town and the bridge is 18meters above the river's normal level. In January, the river went over the bridge, and there's still gravel on the bridge.

We went and played golfat the local 9 hole course and it was in great condition Green fees $10 each, play all day.

Next day loaded up again, no divorces, and headed through Monto to Cania Gorge Caravan Park. Its famed for its birds. THey and we feed them at 5.00pm and if you annoy them, can they bite!

On the road we got passed by a few cars, pulled over for 1 truck and passed 1 tractor. Not busy.

Cania Gorge CP is very large and very flat with lovely trees, lots of birds and at this time lots of grass. The birds include lorikeets (Bitey ones), galahs lots of king parrots and some sulfer crested cockatoos. The king parrots keep visiting the campsites all day, and they believe they are very accurate flyers. They get really close sometimes and they are pretty fast flyers.

The camp put on damper and billy tea on one morning, then we went for a couple of walks. The Parks Service are really pessimistic about walking times Went up to the dam. It was built in the 1980's for water storage for irrigation. This is the first time its ever been full.

On the 9th we did our biathalon - cycled to one of the big walks - about 8km mostly downhill, then did an 5.6km walk in 1 1/4 hours (advertised as 3) and cycled back again in time for lunch. Met Deidre and Brian in a 7 ,meter caravan who had two divorces when

they arrived as he couldn't position the van to her liking. Then, as usual, settled down. Had a drink with them.

Dinner on Saturday night was pizza and it was v.good.

Packed up today - Sunday and drove to Biloela to stock up. Everything shut - Sunday!! Note to self - don't shift on Sundays. Anyway on a good road for once so here we are behind the Banana Pub for the night. Will sally out soon and search for postcards
