Jetted off to Oz to visit the parents and decided to get married while we were out there. Rod fancied the Town of 1770 just because he wanted to have number instead of a name in the location on the wedding certificate. Stayed in a balinese style house which had absolutely fantastic views and the wedding was very relaxed as it was only us, the celebrant, her husband and friend, who were our witnessess. Needless to say we were running a little behind as when they turned up, I was in my underwear and Rod still in the shower. I told them to help themselves to beer in the fridge but turns out they had already found them! Several beers later and all the paperwork signed (although I nearly married the witness because he was a little drunk and almost signed on the wrong line!), we went down to the local cafe (the only place to eat in town) and discovered they were almost out of food. Pizza was the only thing left, so pizza piled high with seafood was what we had. Rod thought it was great because he now thinks that for our anniversary all he has to do
is put a pizza in the oven - little does he know that this pizza better be given to me while we are in Italy!
Next day was off to Lady Musgrave Island. The captain had the speed of the catamaran just right so we hit every wave and needless to say almost everyone was sick. The cabin staff were great - smiling as they took many sick bags away and listening to Rod say "I don't get seasick - I was in the Navy" - then promptly throwing up the mango he had for breakfast! At least I didn't puke first! I did learn one thing though - mango tastes almost as good coming up and it is going down.... After recoving from the trip out to the island, it was off to my sisters about 7hrs drive north. Packed up the car, had a shower, went to have a cuppa and.... no water came out the taps. Thats right, bloody drought and the water tank was dry. Leftover champagne isn't quite the same as a nice refreshing cup of tea!
We aslo made a visit to Eungella National Park - We told Rod that there were
supposed to be platypus here but after many years of being dragged there to show the relatives around, we had yet to see any. First visit and what does Rod see.....bloody platypus! Not just once either. It put on a 25min show ducking in and out of the water. Made liers out of me and my sister.
Back to Brisbane with my sister and nephew in tow. Stopped off in Bundaberg to see if we could catch the turtles at Mon Repos coming to lay their eggs. We were told by the rangers that they hadn't seen any this season yet so things were not looking good. But Rod had luck going his way again and within 20mins there was a sighting and we were off down the beach, stumbling along as flashlights were not allowed. Silly turtle laid its eggs on a path leading to a caravan park so we were lucky enough to be able to help move them to a safer spot. Back in Brisbane it was off to another island, Tangalooma, but this boat trip was uneventful. Got to go sand tobogganing and managed to fill my pockets with half the sand on the island,
while Rod kept trying to go further than me to win the T-shirt up for grabs. No chance, I told him, excess weight holds you back and needless to say I am now the proud owner of a Tangalooma t-shirt! Also fed the dolphins while we were there which was a memborable night, especially for Jarvis who squealed with delight and talked about nothing else for 3days.
Final few days saw us catching up with friends, having BBQ's and doing a few bush walks. On one of these walks Rod commented that he had seen platypus, turtles, dolphins and that the only thing missing was a kangaroo & a snake! Panic set in as the luck he was having meant that I was likely to come close up and personal with a snake sometime soon. Luckily for me his luck had run out and the closest I got to showing him his last remaining animals was road kill on the side of the highway!
