On the 7/1 we stopped of in a little known place named 1770 (the only place in the world to have numbers for its name - so we're told), and what a find it was! We stopped off to take a trip to the reef but it had so much more to offer. After booking in we were taken on a free trip of the area by a crazy South African guy allowing us to learn a little about the area. We actually stayed in the neighbouring town of Agnes Waters as 1770 doesn't really have much accommodation. We were taken to a cliff area overlooking the bay of 1770, it was an unbelievable sight, a blue river leading onto a pristine white beach and turquoise sea. We parked up by two shacks, and they WERE shacks, on the cliff top and were told that they had just sold for $2million Aus each - and the sight cannot be developed. They did have an outside loo though! Due to being totally shattered after taking the night bus we then headed to the beach to chill, reading books, listening to music and swimming in the sea, the first place that we have
been able to as there are no stingers here! 1770 is free from any commercialisation, not even a McDonald's! Because it is unspoilt everything is so much cheaper, making Oz a little more affordable.
The following afternoon we signed up to the famous Scooterroo tour where we took a tour around the wider area on Choppers - with grunty 125cc engines! There were about 30 other people on the tour and we rode around the area like the Hells Angels (not)! It was a really fun tour run by the same crazy South African guy we met on the first day. The ride took in wildlife spotting, we were lucky enough to see several huge Kangaroos, and scenic rides finished off with watching the sunset in the bay - it covered a total of 80km.
The next day we were going to go surfing in the morning then a sunset kayak in the evening, unfortunately the seas were so rough that they were cancelled, the weather held out so we spent time around the town and by the pool at our hostel, not a bad second choice! In the evening the rain set in and it didn't look
like it was going to stop. Waking up the following morning in anticipation for a reef trip the weather was awful and unfortunately it was cancelled. Instead we took a 3 hour surf which was awesome. We had to take care to keep out of the way of the pros - many who were 8 years old!
On 11/1 we head out to Bundaberg - the home of Australian rum!
