Day 4 cont.
bit of a rest at 'The Granites' (another big gold mine nearby) as it is hot and then onward to Refrig. bore another 50km. Arrive there about 9pm - dark but beaut. moonlit night, still red sky - magic - quiet - desert still
Find the bore with fence around it -'non drinkable sign' - taste it - yuk - highly salty - but wash my hat in it and it goes dead stiff
Well what now, 1/2 L of water left. Have to press on to Renahans bore - another 50k - which i make about the turn of the day - and flop down asleep in a sandy mitre drain -peace and rest.
Bloody dingo annoys me during night trying to pinch my gear and making throaty noises - not sure if he is calling his mates - sleep with one eye open.
Day 5.
Couple parked nearby amazed to see me appear out of the drain and kindly offer breaky -wow - even toast.
Start assessing options - 450 to go - 2 days - bike failing - wired together - little tube repair gear left. Will push on as much as the GT will get me and if it fails or i run out of time will try for a ride.(booked now on Quaint ars as Tiger is confirmed out)
Road is getting better, even mirror like cement stabilised where it is being worked on.
Fill up with 5L of water and press on.
3 girls stop for a chat - heading for Broome from Lismore NSW to protest the gas hub - in a little Corrolla -game- offered water and oranges - cheery lot.
Good easy day and make 180k - bugger Yuendemu is a hole , pass it and crash tired about 8pm -250 to go.
Day 6
Wake a bit weary -listened to radio last night -decided to make it to the bitumen now and hitch a ride -70k to Tilmouth roadhouse and siffilisation - good food there, aquaint with Neil and his spannish -ab. lady. Is a contractor returning from an AC job 500k west ' too right I'll take a ride" -140/160kmh all the way into Alice -there b4 dark all finished
Cheated the last 180k but so what
Loved it the whole way, the desert, the people, the animals, the birds, camels, dingos, horses, no roos, even had a crow talking along with me for a few k -"ark ark" i'd answer -
probably hoping I'd drop
The Tanami has so much history -late 18th C goldseekerswalked untracked 500k west from the telegraph line to Tanami and now even more mines are opening..
Spent the evening in Alice with friends back in comfy city life - but its different out here - no pretentions -real people
Am humbled by the enlisted subscribers and lookers to this blog -and a lot of you I dont even know
Hope you enjoyed the journey, I did
The last item will be a few pics I have downloaded, c u all
