King's CanyonKing's Canyon
King's Canyon

The very steep climb up King's Canyon, the first part of the walk - but well worth it!
Had a lie in today - up at 5am!!! he he!! We had to get up early so we could walk in the cooler time of day, by 11am it is soo hot it would be impossible!
Left at 6am and drove to the Canyon, for a 3 1/2 hour walk. It is very steep to start off with but then it is a wonderfull walk the rest of the way...
Got to the top and the views were amazing! Could see for miles...
The rock formations are amazing, they are layers of rock in different angles, these are layers of sand compressed over the years, then the sand dunes would cover them up, another layer would form etc...
We got to see a couple of ring tailed dragon lizards and walked down to the Garden of Eden. This is a small river or straem that runs through the canyon into a large waterhole, where you can swim - absolutly beautifull and so peacefull. Chris and some of the others went for a swim as it was getting quite hot by this stage...
There are ferns along this part that have been around and not changed since the dinosaur years..

other rocks are rounded on top from the many years of erosion.
It was the best part of the 3 day tour...
Back to camp, to pack up and have lunch then we set off to go back to Alice Springs :-(
We stopped along the way to go and see Dinky - the famous singing Dingo!!!! We asked Sandra, one of teh girls, to play the piano and Dinky sang!!! It was really cool to see as we saw it on TV and the program about dogs and wolves etc! It was really interesting listening to the owner, who told us how the dingo's came to Oz from Asia thousands of years ago, how they are treated today and how they are being re-introduced into certain areas. Also his father was the first person to take people on tours to Uluru and King's Canyon, right up untill it became a National Park.
Got back to Alice Springs arouns 6.30 and then we all met up later for drinks and to say goodbye - we made some good friends here and will hopefully stay in contact. Went for a few beers and then into the Saloon Bar - REALLY brilliant
