(A poem scribbled together during an afternoon of rum drinking in the sun in Broome...) For gold will turn to dust and steel to rust Hearts are bound to stop And as memories are forgot The future will surely fade Only this moment hold its value As this moment is all Time lends us And Time is the ruler of all things He will see every King fall and every hero die. In the shadow of the world and measured against eternity Nothing can maintain Nothing but Now.... read more

I had envisioned sitting here in Darwin writing this blog with wonderful aerial photos of the Bungle Bungle range from out little 8 seater plane and raving about how awesome our scenic flight was. However, as many of you know, it was not meant to be and instead we ended up with an experience that we don’t wish upon anybody. However, between the last blog and this one, much has happened so I shall come back to the flight in due course (parents, you may want to skip that section!) After leaving Exmouth, we headed across to Karratha where we experienced an unusual juddering in the van. Thinking that we had shot the suspension, bent the axel or done some other major injury, we called upon the trusty RAC from Karratha who did a sport check ... read more

Also meine neue Bude ist zwar keine Königssweet aber trotzdem ziemlich gemütlich. Habe die Möbel alle herumgerückt bis es mir gepasst hat :D. Die Küche is nebenan.

"Hey Buddy, take off your cap and empty your pockets." What the fuck are you doing up there in the NT (Northern Territory)?" "You wanna get eaten by crocodiles?" Aber dazu morgen ;) For my english speaking Friends: "Hey Buddy, take off your cap and empty your pockets." That were actually the first words i heared when i stepped on australian ground. :) ... read more

The mosquitoes and the hot humid weather has finally taken its toll on us... inititally we planned 5 days in Litchfield, but after 2 days sleeping at night inside the campervan and also some hours outside the car feeding mosquitoes, we decided to head straight to Darwin... Darwin itself is not big and night life concentrates around the few main streets where the backpackers are based. We found a shared accommodation at $23 per night, shared between 8 people, which was really good, considering we have been sleep in a campervan for the last few weeks and I had the experience of sharing a 26 people dorm in Perth, so this was luxury... Around the backpackers, there are lots of cool drinking places to hang out... During the day, if you are not hang over, take ... read more

We arrived in Darwin on the 11thNovember to stay at Nat’s Auntie Debs for a few weeks. First thing we noticed was the humidity. It was only about 5 in the morning but pretty stifling! We looked for work over the next few days, I was lucky enough to be able to go to work for Deb’s close friend doing painting and decorating, Nat applied online to many places but didn’t hear back unfortunately. I worked for a week and a half, and we used that money I earned to go to Katherine Gorge, known as Nitmiluk (which you can read more on further down this blog entry). For the rest of the stay in Darwin we wandered around and drove into the city, we didn’t find that much to do that interested us unfortunately, and ... read more

Will be an early start on Wednesday as I need to have the car at the train about 6.30am and then wait around until Deb arrives about 8:30. Going back to have a look at the museums today and then a nice dinner at the casino. The Casino is very nice with a fantastic pool and relaxation area. ....well I would consider us to be very security conscious, so much so that it irritates Deb to distraction, always locking the car and the camper lockers but it was all for nothing when a very brave thief crept into our camper (after unzipping the door) and stole our phones, Deb's handbag and the MAC computer. Left the chargers behind. The bag turned up in another person's annex and was handed in. Luckily all our cards were still there so they only wanted money and cash items to sell..If we lost the cards I suspect we would have been a bit screwed for a few days waiting for replacements.... The bad news is that we have lost all our photos taken with Deb's camera (the camera they missed btw) as we had loaded them all to ... read more

Our time in Darwin has come to an end - tomorrow we leave for Kakadu before continuing our journey west. We have had a lovely two weeks here, despite the heat, and this is largely thanks to Patrina for allowing us to stay on her property. Complete with pool and a cool deck area, Patrina and Summer’s home has been a very welcome, and relaxing, respite from our travels, and we feel we are now up to the challenge of the last two months. While Paul was freezing his butt in New Zealand (and enjoying games from the luxury of a box - his butt may be freezing, but it always lands in the butter!) my mother came and joined us. This was the first time she stayed with us in the caravan, so it was ... read more
