Geo: -13.7654, 130.712We pulled into the roadside info stop for a quick look at what is around at Daly River about 11.30.Seeing only a few signs should have told us something but we were excited to be here and to set up camp. Not being used to the street signs here we got lost. Apparently all the caravan parks, attractions, farm stays or whatever else are listed in blue with km distance on a massive sign but no arrows. The street name is above this in green with an arrow. Well we should have turned right but kept going. No biggie as we came to the end of the road only a few kms away. Chucking a u turn and taking a left we finally made it to Banyan Farm Caravan Park. Nice place to stay ... read more

Daly River 8th July 2012 Leaving Katherine we did not have a big day in front of us to reach the Daly River, our destination, but our first stop was Pine Creek and Mayse’s Café, a regular stop for travellers along the Stuart Highway. Mayse Young was the publican of the hotel next door from the 1940’s to the 1960’s. During construction of the Overland Telegraph line from Adelaide to Darwin in 1870, workers crossed a creek that was ‘not all that large’ but was ‘notable for the pine trees that grew on its banks’. In 1871 workers digging holes for the telegraph line found gold in the soil, triggering another Australian gold rush. Pine Creek was, until the turn of the century, one of the major centres of the Territory's mining industry. Consequently the history ... read more

Hi Everyone, Since our last blog we left Umuwa along with Erin and headed to Alice Springs. We dropped Bud off at the Pet Resort as our plans were to go to Palm Valley which is a national park and no dogs. It was extremely hot and nowhere to swim at the valley so we decided to bunker down in Alice for Easter. Bud was happy only 2 nights in the kennel instead of 4. I cooked a leg of lamb in my ecopot and had a great meal on Easter Sunday. We left Alice on Easter Monday and stopped over night at Banka Banka Station, a working cattle station just north of Tennant Creek. We arrived at Katherine the following day and stocked up and stayed overnight. Our next destination The Banyan Farm is about ... read more
