Oh wow, I have fallen behind on blogging already. Time to try and catch up.
There has been a place in the Camps Australia book that Ryan has been mentioning since before we left on this trip. It was a small town about 40kms south of Grafton (about mid-way between Grafton and Coffs Harbour) and there was a camp at the recreation grounds that had no power, but water and we hoped the camping fee would be minimal.
So, after driving through some beautiful country we arrived at the Glenreagh recreation grounds... $8 a night unpowered, $12 a night powered. Perfect. We agreed to stay 3 nights.
Setting up for us is a bit comical. Picking a site in a free camp where the instruction is... pick whatever spot you want... is complicated, you don't want to park right beside someone else, you want somewhere relatively flat, a nice view (ie. you don't want to be looking right at the toilet block) and shade is nice as long as the trees don't look capable of dropping a big branch on you. So, sometimes it takes us a bit to figure out where we want to be, which will
hopefully improve with time and we will turn it into an art form.
It really is a magical spot and one that has been added to our list of places we to consider when we look for property.
There were a couple of people already setup and they all seemed friendly.
Dinner that night was at the pub. Big meals, nice and pretty cheap. Though I do wish that kids menus were more inventive than chicken nuggets & chips, fish & chips, burger & chips. Noah likes his veg and I like to at least offer them at dinner (he ended up eating bits from our salads). The only hiccup of the evening was Noah having a breakdown when another child hopped onto the car racing game... I really need to teach him to share without the hysterical tantrum.
Did I mention how peaceful and beautiful it is here?
Friday we headed into Coffs Harbour to buy Noah a new bike. He currently has one of those 3 wheel plastic trikes that was kindly given to him by a neighbour of Ryan's parents. He totally motors on it and has a great time, but it
is proving rather difficult on grass and Noah has taken to pushing it from behind rather than riding it. So, he is now the proud owner of a lime green Strider, it looks like a proper pushbike, it just has no pedals. To say he is unimpressed with it would be close to the mark. He likes it, but the balancing thing is getting the better of him at the moment. I’m sure he’ll love it… eventually.
While in Coffs we visited the Big Banana, I think that is secretly why Ryan wanted to buy Noah a bike so we could go and get a sundae at the Banana. We forgot the camera, so no photos from our visit, but we all enjoyed the banana sundaes and the chocolate coated banana on a stick that Ryan had to have… it was a huge banana and one side of the chocolate was coated with freckles.
That’s all for now. Will put the next two days in another post.
