I left Central Sydney YHA this morning and waddled over to the Glebe... Yes waddled! I have accumulated rather a lot of stuff in the last week which means I'm now carrying another bag. The hardest part is to actually start moving and then slowly gain momentum as i'm loaded down like a donkey. The result... a rather embarrassing waddle.
Anyway....
The trip is continuing to go well.
On Thursday I went to the Sydney Wildlife World. Being in the city has meant I haven't seen much of the Aussie Wildlife appart from the bats and as well as a number of pigeons, which look the same as back home, club feet included. I haven't even seen a spider. So I went a long with linda and hannah, who I met at the hostel, to see the spiders, snakes and, more importantly, the koalas!
The insects are huge and so very ugly! The spiders aren't as huge as I'd been led to believe though...not really upset about that. Most people I have spoke to haven't encountered many spiders or snakes on their travels. There is so much space that human and spiders do well at avoiding each other. I even felt bad for the funnel web (most dangerous spider) as it cowered in its nest as a troop of kids banged on the glass...i secretly hoped for the glass to break since they managed to scream and shout all the way through the exhibitions... 'the look' was lost of them, however it worked perfectly well on the teachers who attempted, unsuccessfully, to reign in the rabble. If only they'd let me have a go, it would have taken feeding only one to a croc to have them lined up in single file :)
The marsupials are the cutest! unfortunately I couldn't get at them with the glass in the way, but any unsuspecting koala in the wild better watch out! I want a cuddle! wait till you see the photos... you'll want to too.
That was Thursday. I tend to only plan one activity a day at the moment. Might as well take my time :) The weather has improved now so the afternoon is a good time to chill out away from the heat. Even with suncream on I feel like I'm slowly cooking, like boil in a bag. Not wanting to get ill I'm playing it safe. I still seem to be feeling the jet lag a lil. I get this weird sensation similar to being in a lift (if that makes any sense). my head gets floaty and my legs a bit wobbly :-s strange but I'm not the only one who has had it, before you go thinking its just me!, Linda has as well.... so there!
Friday was my get things done day. All those boring things like medicare, tax, bank accounts and resumes *yawn*
As well as trudging all the way down to the visitors centre in midday heat to get a travel card, waiting for 20mins and being told I couldn't get it there... yay. And then I went back to the hostel to do my washing...thrilling stuff.
Went out in the evening with Linda, fellow Work and Travel ...errr... traveller, to a Work and Travel night for a free dinner at the Gaff. The Gaff is supposed to be a good place for a night out... bit of a s**t hole if you ask me but then maybe thats the look they were going for....who knows. After free dinner we left and moved on to an Irish pub (cant remember name). So very Irish - included drunks getting chucked out at 9pm and those less intoxicated singing songs. Sweet!
Finally had a good nights sleep!
