Aussies are up 9 and 609 to 7 and 162 over England in the big cricket match taking place in Brisbane at the moment...the Barmy Army must be devastated... I may sound like I know what I'm talking about...haven't a clue. The "Ashes" as they call them, are on 6.5 hrs a day, and they say there are 30,000 tourist in Brisbane to see this series alone...it has me worried about accomodations. o look at stars.Since my last blog, which I wasn't sure if I finished as I clicked the publish button about .5 seconds before my time expired and logged me out. In the never ending pursuit of parity with its larger and more cosmopolitan neighbour (Grafton), Yamba has acquired its very own Target store. OK OK, I will fess up, it’s actually a Target Country. I’ve never been quite sure why companies insist on demarcating their stores between their country and suburban outlets. It’s as though us country folk wouldn’t understand the shopping experience that is Target if we didn’t get it spelt out with a country indicator. The same goes for Bi-Lo. Why is it that us country residents have to shop at a supermarket named after an Asian man of questionable sexuality while everyone else in the world can make do with Coles? And one last question, why the hell does Marrickville have a Target Country when you can catch a bus there from Bondi ... read more

In November of 2003, we drove down to spend time with friends in the north part of New South Wales near the small town of Maclean. It's lovely! Our friends had moved from Darwin in 2002 and have built a beautiful home in Gulmarrad near the Clarence River. Known as the gateway to the Australian sugar industry (cane fields everywhere!), Maclean is rich in Scottish heritage and personalized plaid painted poles are found everywhere. At dusk and dawn we saw about 20-30 kangaroos (some with joeys in pouch) grazing and roaming throughout the neighbourhood. They were EVERYWHERE…crossing the road in front of us and out in the yards.
