I know we've only been here 10 days, but the ocean calls, so we head on down (3hours drive South from Syndey) to Jervis Bay. When looking at Australia on Google Earth before we left the UK, Mike had spotted the white beaches (apparently some of the whitest in the world) at Jervis Bay, so the decision of where to go for our first weekend away was easy...we booked into a B&B in Vincentia, Jervis Bay. We found a gem of a B&B, called Dunes (www.dunes-bnb.com.au). Sandra, the owner, was wonderful. She couldn't have provided a better service if she tried. Our room was lovely and she had thought of everything, a spare sun hat and sunscreen, all the little touches that make you want to go back. She even made a packed breakfast for Mike when she heard he was leaving at 5.30am on the Saturday morning for a deep sea fishing morning I had organised as a surprise for him. Now that's service! And her breakfasts were lovely - fruit, muesli and a good cooked brekkie on the patio, only a few metres from the sea which was over a sand dune (hence the name of the B&B) -

The Burrito - er Benito!
we could hear the waves.

Friday evening we arrived at 9pm and rushed off to the local 'mall' (more a small selection of little shops) and had dinner at restaurant called Stonegrill - where you cook your own steak and seafood on a very hot stone. Unfortunately as a small town, the restaurant lacked atmosphere, but the food was fun to cook, and a table of about 5 couples celebrating a 50th birthday provided the entertainment :-)

On Saturday Mike went off fishing while I visited the beach and got a 45min walk in. He caught a Benito (which I was embarrassingly calling a Burrito for ages, hmmm). Still not convinced I have got the name of the fish correct. The surf was very choppy, but he still had great fun, and is eager to join the skipper Angelo on his 41 foot boat again, next time to catch a Marlin. We enjoyed eating the Benito in a pasta salad we made when we got home.

On Sunday we hired a double kayak and spent two hours exploring the coastline. Trying to get into the active lifestyle here :-) There was a sailing competition on the go which we watched from slightly closer as we could paddle up on the kayak. We made our way back to Sydney mid afternoon, after a throughly enjoyable weekend. It felt like a holiday.
