We hadn’t really made a plan beyond Picton, but when our friends Tracey and Jason said they would be in Terrigal for a couple of days, we thought that would be a great spot to visit.
As it turned out, Terrigal is lovely! It has made it on to my ‘wonderful places’ list! It’s a beautiful, bustling but chilled beachside hamlet where time seems to stand still. On our first evening we caught up with T&J over a yummy Thai dinner and the next day was spent cycling (it sure is hilly around there!), checking out Wamberal (a nearby suburb of the city of Gosford), swimming/snorkeling in the ocean and browsing the many shops on Terrigal esplanade. Dean and Jason went fishing together while I did a yoga class – at an amazing Buddhist retreat in the forest and had my hair cut as it had been getting way too warm with all the lovely sunny weather! We enjoyed Terrigal that we decided to stay two nights. On our last morning, Dean enjoyed a nice cooked brekkie at one of the esplanade cafés and we climbed ‘the Skillion’, a narrow and very steep section of the headland with fantastic views.
We’re seeing lots of references to ‘the central coast of NSW’ which is a nice reminder that that’s where we actually are. Not so long ago we were on the south coast of NSW and, whilst we’re in no hurry to keep moving, it’s exciting to know that we are making progress and thrilling to be reminded that we are actually driving around the whole of Australia in our van!
We also continue to meet and chat with some interesting people along the way. in Terrigal, we met a very nice local gentleman who was almost more excited than us about our trip. He and his wife had made three attempts at the same trip but each time they made it from Sydney up to Cairns, they had to turn back due to personal circumstances. He considered that they were now too old to make the trip. However, they live in such a lovely part of the world – and it’s really all about where your mind, not your body, is.
We had another encounter with an eccentric older lady. Riding her bicycle dressed in fishnet leggings, a very short tutu and Jackie-O sunnies, she was very
interesting to chat with. She asked us all about how we had planned our trip and the logistics of it. In conclusion, we all agreed that there is too much consumerism in the world and that this life is here for us to enjoy.
Having said that, I do still enjoy a bit of consumerism every so often! :-) But I am very pleased not only that the opportunity for this trip presented itself to us, but that we chose to take the opportunity.
