So after almost 3 years of not writing in here, I think its about time that I updated!! 😊 Our travels are far from over, and so we need to tell the world about our past 3 years!!
So Sydney became home to us. We have had an absolutely amazing time here, and have made so many memories...I just don't know where to start!! 😊
Last I left off, Steve was Head chef at Toros and I was Evening Supervisor at Plate Restaurant. Work stayed this way until June 2011. We were then offered the opportunity to run and manage Plate Restaurant. It was too good to turn down, so we took it. It was such a good experience, and one that we will never regret, but in the end it wasn't for us (especially being in Sydney away from family and friends) and so we decided in February 2013 to hand back the restaurant.
Life in Sydney over its 3 and a bit years have been good. We worked long weeks with only one day off, and used that day off to relax with friends and bbqs (normally at Jeremy and Lauras house). We didn't take many
holidays, just little ones one or two night adventures to the Hunter Valley, Gold Coast, Canberra, Blue Mountains (took 3 years to get there!) plus a few trips back to Perth (plus two weddings of siblings in Bali and Perth!) 😊
We experienced what it was like to work a Christmas Day (not that crash hot hehe) plus Australia Day in Darling Harbour - which was absolutely ama
zing, so so cra
zy and busy!!
We went to the cricket, football (Dockers beat Sydney!!), saw our first opera and play at the Sydney Opera House. We drove up to Palm Beach (Summers Bay) but didn't see Alf! 😞 hehe Unfortunately our hours prevented us from seeing many people outside hospitality, or doing many 'popular' things on the weekends, but we still managed to see the sights. We realised beginning of 2013 that we really hadn't seen much of Sydney, so made an effort to see as much as possible in the next few months.
We moved house a couple of times too. We were originally staying with Andy, our friend who we drove in to meet (and haven't really seen much of since we actually moved here). We then
moved to a house on Harris St, which was a shared house - a 3 story, 3 bed penthouse. We stayed in two other couples, who changed a couple of times in the 4 months we were there. It was good, but mid June 2010 we realised that we wanted our own place, so moved just down the road (using just a couple of trips in the maverick) to Pyrmont st, which be our home for the next 22 months. It was a 2X2 and absolutely perfect - a bit pricey, but just down the road from work and the city, nightlife, and just easy in general. But in May 2012 we decided that easy wasn't good anymore - too easy to eat, drink, stay out late. So we moved to Chiswick, about 20 mins drive or on the ferry to the city. It was suburbia and I loved it from the moment I saw the apartment - I still remember driving to the inspection and loving the parks, river, and the kids at soccer training on the fields...It was something I felt like I hadn't seen in ages! It was slightly inconvenient because it was further out then we
were used to - if we had a night out we actually had to plan it properly, cos we couldn't just run home and get changed, and we had to afford a taxi home. It was good though, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and so so good not being walking distance from work! Plus, I loved the commute - the view of the skyline all the way down to the Harbour Bridge when we turn off Victoria Rd onto An
zac bridge is breathtaking.
Life changed a little once we gave up Plate Restaurant, but definitely for the better - we had a little more freedom, and were able to see more. Plus, in April I got a day job, and having nights off was just a foreign concept to me!! 😊
One of the most exciting bits of Sydney though was at 12:34am on the 7th of January 2013 - when Steve proposed!! 😊 We had drinks at the Opera Bar after work, and then when it closed we walked to underneath the Harbour Bridge. Totally awesome 😊
So that is our life so far in Sydney. I'm sure I've missed heaps -
my own fault for waiting so long! 😊
