So the answer to the question at the end of the last entry is definitely that Sydney wins! Although Sydney is much less appealing than Malbourne in many factors: less open spaces, less australian (could be almost any city in the world), less tourist friendly transport, Sydney still wins because of the Harbour, which is really unique. Of the sights on the harbour, we all thought the Opera House was a fascinating and beautiful building, but in our view the Harbour Bridge was the high point. It is not only a amazing structure, but is also functional carrying both road (6 lane motorway) and rail traffic
For sophie and Anna, the main attraction was the Aquarium. The initial conditions weren't that promising: rainy Sunday afternoon, long queues, lots of people. But there was a lot to see so the crowds inside were ok. As part of the visit, you can walk through tunnels under the water at the bottom of the tanks and see the fish
swim above you. Particularly seeing the sharks cruise effortly above us was a special experience. Seeing them close up gives you a certain respect. You can see one in the photos: fortunately there was glass between him and us! Sophie even saw one who decided to make a snack of one of the smaller fish in the tank simply by biting the rear half off.
For Rob and Vesna, the highlight was a meal out in the historic Rocks area. We had excellent food and wine. Anna and Sophie enjoyed the meal (a very high class beefburger and chips). To end the evening we had a super stroll down by the harbour to enjoy Sydney by Night before catching a taxi home.
On our final day, we took the ferry through the harbour to Manly. This trip showed us a bit more of the harbour, allowed us to take a walk around the relaxed Manly area of Sydney. We also saw surfers for the first time on our holiday. From a brief observation, we conclude that surfing must be quite difficult as you dont see many people who can stay on the board for very long. It is
also possible of course that they were all tourists: we couldnt really tell the difference.
Tomorrow we collect the campervan and our mobile home adventure starts. We're ready for the north as the temperature in Sydney is not cold but not really warm. It also has rained quite a bit. Swimming for the children has also been limited to the hotel pool. More details will follow.

GuK Marceline
