hey guys, how is everybody? sorry haven't been in touch nor written anything but there's nothing much to say right now, it's become a bit of a routine, going to work, beach, home!! since i left Thailand in november, jacky and me went to Melbourne for a few weeks before splitting up in Sydney. Melbourne was really cool, i loved it there, nice people and lovely city.
Sydney is more hectic, lots of people, it really looks like London with the sun and flip flops!! but i can say that australians are very lucky, you can feel they're more relaxed and laid-back, like it's holiday everyday, i'm sure the weather helps. Sydney is a great city, full of outdoors activities, parks in the city, and more than 30 beaches to choose from.
speaking of which, coming from Marseille where the sea is calm with no waves, on my 1st week in Sydney i nearly drowned, caught up in a rip and couldn't swim back but thankfully i managed without asking the lifeguards. what a shame! it's no real pleasure to swim here, first the water is freezing, and then, there;s so many waves, some of them up to 3m with
strong currents. also it's full of jellyfish and sharks and you can see the helicopters checking the sea and sometimes u need to stay out of the water because it's too dangerous to swim. Apart that it's still very nice and famous Bondi beach is great and full of surfers!
After 4 months of being lazy i had to go back to work and i can tell you that's the hardest thing. i've become such a lazy person when i was in Asia, being flat on my back on the beach most of the days! and it's not easy work either; i start everyday at 6.30, working in a restaurant. i thought i would be a rubbish waitress, but i;m not too bad and get loads of tips. haven't dropped anything yet and even kept smiling when americans pissed me off at 7 in the morning! and i look after 2 teenager boys and give them french lessons in the afternoons, so it's quite a long day at work.
i also found a flatshare, living with some korean, japanese and swedish people and there;s a gym, pool and spa. i know, exciting except i'm too tired to actually
go! went only 5times in 2months. and i need to lose all the kilos i put on in Thailand, having curries all day and those cheap ici-cream, i pay for it now!! The flat is on a 14th of a big tower and overlooking Darling Harbour.
i'm also meeting lots of people and checking out the clubs, well, nothing compared to London but much better than Asia, especially the music.
My travel plans are changing all the time, Qantas must hate me now, changed my dates 5 times already, but i should be in New Zealand at the end of the month, then go back to Brisbane to travel the east coast. That's where all the nicest beaches and islands are and i think the best places worth seeing. Then, i'll go and say hi to the Aboriginals in the outback. can't wait to see Uluru, the big rock in the middle of Australia. And fingers crossed, there's maybe a chance i might go to Fiji. god i'm gonna be so broke soon!! that means more work to come... Ahhhhrrrr
I can't wait to be on the road again, i miss the times in Asia when we decided at
the last minute to go somewhere else and just take a boat or a bus, can u believe i've been in Australia for 4 months and haven't seen a kangaroo? well u don't really see them in the city except if u go to the zoo but i want to see a wild one, so i can't wait to get to the east coast and move around whenever i want to. the only horrible thing now is that i;m gonna have to carry my bag again, it was in the closet for 3 months and i went a bit mad with shopping. they've got lots of $9 shops, basically everything in the store costs $9 so imagine, it's not even 4 pounds!!
My friend Gaby went back to London and then back home in Johannesburg. i'm already missing u girl! we went to have a very expensive coke at the top of a posh hotel right in front of the harbour. people were so classy, sipping champagne and here we were, gaby drinking tap water and me complaining to have paid $7 for a bloody coke!! but the view was well worth the money. u'll see the pictures.
the 12 apostles
the highlight of our trip 2 weeks ago in Sydney was Mardi Gras and we went to see the parade, it was so great, lasted for more than 2h. The streets were packed with people wearing not so many clothes, was fun to see. It's the gay and lesbian festival and there was such a great atmosphere. everyone was happy, or maybe drunk!! and in the mood to party all night. we managed to sneak to the VIP, drinking champagne, it was so cool.
This saturday, we're gonna rent a car to go to the south coast in Jervis bay, everybody says it's really nice and i read there's a beach with the whitest sand in the world so can't wait to see that. we're gonna go on a cruise to see dolphins and maybe whales. should be fun...
Went to see Match Point at the movies last week and i have to say, seeing London for nearly 2h made me realise how much i miss the city. but let's not talk about the weather, i'm not sure i'm ever gonna get used again to the grey sky!!
yesterday i went to a quizz in a pub for the 1st time and guess what,
isn't it cute?
koalas are so lucky, they get to sleep 22h a day we were 1st for the half and finished 3rd out of 10 teams. i'm glad the winner missed the $2800 jackpot. now i'm gonna try next week, i need that money!
so everyone, happy st patrick day, have fun wherever u are, france, england and i see u all in July, hopefully!
mounette, donne moi des news.
