City
Ready to hit the city for a little exploring. Wednesday, February 11 2009 was one of our down days. We got up late, had a nice nutritious meal at McDonalds, and spent the afternoon at IEP using their free internet. We’d have to make use of this while we could, since once we hit the road, free and fast internet would probably be very hard to come by. Lol
The next day was also another down day. The zoo from Tuesday must have worn us out. Lol We spent much of our day working on this travel blog and watching an anime show called Death Note. These entries can be pretty time consuming, so when we finally sit down to write, a couple of hours tend to fly by. We also tried to watch the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey”. A little slow for the both of us, so we decided to save it for another night.
Friday the 13th! Well, an unlucky number calls for unlucky weather. It was definitely not the nicest we’d seen. Plenty of rain. We went into IEP again in the afternoon. We’d been thinking of our plans for seeing the rest of Australia, so we’d been talking to some of the consultants
Hungry Jacks
Can you say Burger King anyone? there about whether we should try to do a few all-inclusive trips while still in Sydney, or should we start moving up the coast and look at trips later. It’s tough to decide because we didn’t want to spend too much of our money right at the beginning. But they helped us with some ideas. Friday was also grocery night. Unfortunately, it seemed we kept making the same mistake and going right after IEP closed (which was 5pm), so the grocery stores were very busy. Sydney, like many big cities, doesn’t seem to have too many big grocery stores, and the stores it has have a client base that do very small (though maybe daily) groceries. No shopping cart, just business people with a single basket. Makes the lines move quickly though.
Valentine’s Day! Finally something to talk about! Although it’s still nothing too exciting. Hillary and I decided to explore the city south of our hostel. Sure we’d seen plenty of the core, but what about the outskirts, without all the skyscrapers? We walked south and came across the “University of Technology, Sydney”. Nice campus. Hard to believe it was just right around the corner and we didn’t

The Entertainment Center. even notice. We walked down to Victoria Park, which seems to be one of the bigger parks in the area. It was nice, but seemed to be in the building stage for a Mardi Gras festival, so a lot of it was fenced off. On our way back, we spotted Valentine Street! Talk about an appropriate street for an appropriate day. Although I have to admit there didn’t seem to be anything remotely romantic in regards to the street. Lol
We then tried out an internet café. This was the weekend, so IEP was closed, and the internet at McDonalds (although free) can be pretty slow. The place was packed with video gamers! I’d say there was about 50+ computers, and the majority of them were being used for games like World of Warcraft or Call of Duty. Funny thing was, the people playing the more violent shooter games were girls! Anyways, after a bit of time checking Facebook and what not, Hillary and I decided to spend our Valentine’s Day evening at the movies. Obviously, very busy. But our choices were limited due to our budget, so we couldn’t really be going out to fancy restaurants. We saw

View from IEP. Pretty high. Rachel Getting Married. It was a fairly dark dramatic comedy. It was a decent movie. Worth seeing, but I wouldn’t spend money to see it again.
