Sydney, Australia - February 1st - 9:00pm
Lee got up nice and early this morning and when he turned the light on to get ready for work I was up. So I slowly got ready and lazed around for a bit longer as he ran off to work. He only had to work a few hours so I didn’t have much time to get ready. I got dressed and ready and ran down to the ship to meet Lee, as we were going to do some more sightseeing. I was pretty happy with myself as I was stopped and asked for directions. I guess I don’t look like a tourist anymore, gees I hope not, I’ve been in Sydney walking around this part of town enough by now.
I got down to the pier and had to wait a few minutes for Lee. We headed for Starbucks as we were both a little tired. We enjoyed our coffees and planned our day out. It wasn’t going to be too busy or too long as Lee had to be back at work by 2pm. But I did have to head into Penrith on the train to get my things as I’m
moving to Dave and Linda’s house for a little while. Dave and Linda are Lee’s second cousins, which were nice enough to offer me a place to stay and store my luggage while I travel up to the Great Barrier Reef.
We headed for the harbour bridge, as Lee hasn’t walked across it yet. The sights are great from here and the weather was perfect to see everything. We walked across the one of the pylons which you can climb 200 steps and get to the top. It was really cheap to do it and the views were spectacular. We got to watch some bridge climbers hike up the bridge but I think we had just as good a view as they would have, and our tour was much much cheaper. I was shocked to see that there was one couple with a pram(stroller) on the top. There is no elevator so they had to carry the pram up the 200 steps, you wouldn’t be catching me doing that.
We then finished our walk across the bridge. I had a few minutes left on my phone which I was saving so Lee could call his family, but they like to screen his calls so he really didn’t get to talk to anymore but did leave 3 messages! Haha sorry guys, we tried. He did get to talk to Dan (his boss at the golf course) which was nice and he informed us that there were a few inches of snow on the ground. I’m not looking forward to that, but I’ll deal with it I guess. I don’t think my tan will last too long when I get home.
We headed back to the ship and had a lovely lunch at Circular Quay. We had a great view of the ship and bridge, and the prices weren’t too bad. I had a simple spaghetti dish but I was craving it, and it was fantastic. We had to sit down and rest for a little bit as we were both stuffed, I wanted to curl up and take a nap. It was close to 1:30pm and I had to jump on the ferry to head back to Penrith to grab my luggage. I figured since I didn’t know when I’d be going back this way that I’d take the ferry to Parramatta and then the train the rest of the way. I’m really glad I decided this way too because the view was great. We took the river all the way there and some of the houses on the river were amazing. They’d be pretty expensive but they were gorgeous. Silly me forgot that I hadn’t put sunscreen on and since the wind was blowing on me I didn’t realize how hot it was out. I did end up getting a little pink but nothing too bad.
I figured since I was in Parramatta at the mall that I’d look for a fan for Lee. Well that wasn’t too great of an idea as I had to bring it back to Penrith and then with all my luggage haul it back to Sydney. The things I do sometimes…gees. I found a fan and figured it might be a little big but he’s not going to find another one anywhere in Australia with the heat that we’ve been having. I did see a cute one but it was the display so I asked if I could have that with a discount they had no problem with that, but I asked if I could see it working, just to make sure. The male insisted that it worked but I still wanted proof. So after 3 outlets and them insisting it was just the outlets I told them it wasn’t going to work. I found another one that was a little more pricey. I got some flowers for Jean to thank her for eveyrhting she’s done and I was on my way. I packed everything up and double checked the place. I’m pretty sure I got everything and I didn’t have the feeling that I forgot something so I called the cab company and waited for the cab. The stupid cabbie drove the wrong way and I had to pay a little more for the fare but I didn’t care at that point because I knew I wouldn’t have been able to walk with all my luggage. I was on the train and heading for Sydney.
After getting another cab to the hotel, I got there safe and sound. I was relieved when I had walked into my hotel room and knew my luggage had made it. I rested for a little bit and watched the beginning of the Men’s final tennis match. I’ve been really enjoy the tennis, wish I got to go to a game but that’s alright…next time. I figure I’d head down to the internet café and fire off Lee an email to let him know that me and my luggage made it back ok, but as I got to George street there was a huge parade going on. I eventually made it to the corner where the café was but of course it was kiddy corner to where I was and the parade didn’t look like it was going to end anytime soon. It was for Chinese New Year as I was in Chinatown. I’ve never seen so many Asians in my life, they were everywhere. After watching it for a little while I decided to head back to the hotel and wait for Lee to get off work. I had passed a pizza place and grabbed a slice for dinner.
I got back to the hotel, showered and got dressed as Luc and Ana wanted to go out for drink after work with Lee and I. I just sat down on the bed to watch the tennis and Lee walked in. He looked pretty tired and informed me that Luc wasn’t going anywhere till after the tennis. Well I knew they were going to go to 5 sets and it was going to be an easy 5 hour match. So Lee showered and relaxed while I crawled into bed. The game was really good and intense as it was Nadal (ranked number 1 in the world) and Federer (ranked number 2 in the world). But my eyes were just so tired and heavy that I eventually rolled over and went to sleep.
