We managed to borrow a tent from friends which was very nice of them, thank you Jane and Steve! We thought we would save some money by camping and have lots of fun too! We certainly did have a laugh and probably did save some money!
We headed to North Narrabeen for 2 nights. The Sydney Lakeside campsite was beautiful, great showers, kitchen, bbq area and the best bit was the bird that always greeted us by saying 'hello cookie'! We pitched our tent in record time and headed off to the shops to get some food and mainly drink! So, the first night we are sitting outside enjoying the 2 litre box of rose wine and playing cards when suddenly i realised our tent had collapsed! By this time it was pitch black and we couldn't really see what we were doing and this is where Dennis and Barbara came into the picture! Basically they saved the day! They put our tent back up for us! They were a very nice couple so we repayed them be letting them enjoy our company and some rose wine!!
After 2 great nights there we headed to Palm Beach where we
caught a ferry to the Basin which is at the Ku-ring-gai chase National Park. We stepped off the boat and thought wow this place is great, wild wallabies hopping around and loads of places to go exploring! We arrived with only a tin of beans and some bread thinking that there would be a shop over there, but there wasn't!! We met some nice guys at the bbq area, well actually the little boy with them spoke first he wanted one of my glow sticks (i'm sad i know!). We pleaded poverty being backpackers and they were more than happy to give us alcohol to help us along our way!
The next day we get up earlyish and head back over to the main land to find shops! We did and stocked up on pasta, beans, bread etc. We stayed at the Basin for 6 nights, we didn't think we would last that long but we did.
So we then decided we loved this camping thing so decided to head back to North Narrabeen for 2 nights but we ended up staying for 4 nights. Last night we really needed to quench our thirst so we set off
in search of a pub. We didn't find one but we thought we would try the local Surf Club just across from the campsite to see if we would get in and we did! Cheap drink, free food and they gave us free hats! We met a few people and they were all very nice and friendly. We have even been invited to their Christmas party next Saturday night. Not 100% sure if we will go but i think we should for a laugh!
Now were are in Collaroy which is only 5 minutes from North Narrabeen, we just love Sydney's Northern Beaches! We are back in a hostel, I'm actually quite looking forward to sleeping in a bed tonight for the first time in 12 nights!
