G'day
I decided to start a blog as much for myself as for anybody following my travels in Aussie. It stops me clogging up the facebook post board with all the details most wont be much interested in. Also for those who *gasp* dont have facebook (only kidding)
So I'm 3 days into the aussie adventure, and on my second full day. I avoided the long walks I undertook in the first 2 days after waking up stiff and with my legs a bit wobbly as I made my way down to breakfast - a good enough reason for a chill day!
On monday i had headed straight down to the harbour to see the amazing Opera House and Harbour bridge.
A bit disappointed by the Opera House - its less white more dirty cream up close! (I'm so hard to please) But it is a impressive bit of architecture. More impressive is the Harbour bridge!
I headed back down to the harbour on the next day with camera at hand ( i was travelling lite the previous day). Even though i headed out early- before 8 - impressive eh! (for me anyway) the day turned was heading for a scorcher! yes i burned - but not much as i had the factor 50 at hand.
I do have some photos. i will add them soon i promise. just to make you more jealous :)
i walked on from the harbour and into the botanical gardens, an amazing sized greenery with plants form all over the world right in the heart of the city, which i was admiring when a shrieking noice from above made me look up and what do i see but a huge bat! the size of a bloody raven ... no joke! and what does it land in... but a tree with more of em all hanging upside down wrapped in their wings... there are trees full of HUGE bats! that has been my first encounter with the aussie wildlife! its going to be an interesting trip i can tell.
anyway after more walking i went on to macquarie point which gets amazing views of the opera house - and this must be where all the postcard pics must be taken - cause it actually looks white and pearly against the city background - marvellous.
onwards i walked back into the thick of the city and back to the hostel where i consequently collapsed in bed and fell asleep till 6. now this sounds lazy but put it into context when i tell you i am sharing a room with a chronic snorer! oh my god its horrendous! my first night here i forced myself to stay awake until a reasonable bedtime hour and so happy to be in a proper bed and not in a cramped airplane chair --- but then --- yes --- it started --- quietly at first then slowing getting louder before it crescendoed into an almighty satan roar! and then it all started again! not a good first night sleep!
second night i got earplugs!
Anways, I've not been up to much today. many will be happy to know that its been raining! though I'm not sure what the locals are complaining about - light precipitation compared to in britain.
I had a info meeting at the work and travel company which is why i was out in the morning. After the first 20 mins I was more aware of the fact the plastic ikea chairs had left we with a numb bum and crick in my back but oh well I endured it. I noticed they take your passports of you when you arrive, they say for important paper work but I think its to make you stay for the full 3 hours.
I made plans for when I leave this hostel, I'm booked into the Glebe YHA from Saturday, where I will be for 7 nights as it works out pretty cheap (for city hostels) with a deal I got through the work and travel - only $140 for the week. And to treat myself for my hard work I went to lunch :) My first proper meal of the trip - dont worry i've been grazing up till now - airplane food ruined my appetite! a chinese vegetarian cafe/restaurant, i had tofu with ginger on a bed of cabbage with rice - yummmmm. it was proper amazing, most the stuff in my budget in this area seems to be fast food based but this was proper home cooked grub! I will be going back!
So if you made it this far, thanks for not getting bored. I hope everyone is well back home... missing you all x

Ah so this is where you are hiding! Good to hear your news - and to know you are managing to find food! I know what it is like to sleep with a snorer!!
