We had to go sightseeing in Sydney, so on our first whole day we decided to stroll up through Hyde Park to the Domain and on to Mrs Macquaries Chair, where you can see spectacular views of both the Opera House with Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. We then headed up for a nosy at the Opera House, although we couldn't go in and look around as there was a ballet on, but managed to get a little snap-happy and get lots of piccies (well you have to, don't you?!) We walked around to Circular Quay, and then decided that we would go jetboating in the harbour - awesome fun but got absolutely soaked, and had to walk around in wet jeans for the rest of the day! But definitely worth it, and a good way to see the harbour... We then wandered up to The Rocks, and just happened to stumble on the famous (so I'm told) Pancakes on the Rocks, so naturally we went in for a bite to eat (mmm chocolate pancakes with strawberrys - just like heaven!)
The next day we decided to head to Bondi, and being organised, we took a picnic lunch with
us. However, it was rather cold and windy, and as soon as we sat down on the grass, the seagulls flocked to us as we had food (although they soon left us alone when a couple threw them some bread, and several million descended on them, haha!) We were aiming to do the scenic walk to Coogee, but we wandered halfway to Tamarama Beach and Bronte Beach and stopped for a hot chocolate (oh ok and some carrot cake) and then got the bus back as we were fairly tired! However, the walk was beautiful; in and around rocks, and watching waves crashing onto the rocks below, and surfers and bodyboarders riding the waves... That evening I went for another Thai meal (a bit like buses - hadn't had Thai since being in Thailand and then two in a week!) with some more of the girls I met in Thailand - it was really good to have a reunion and we all nattered away for ages!
On our final day, I decided that I was going to get up early and see some of the Blue Mountains, and Beth (one of the girls) had kindly decided she was going
to drive me up there (after calling in sick to uni I may add!), so we spent the morning enjoying the scenic drive (she had told me it was an hour but it was more like two!) and then stopped off for some gorgeous flowerpot scones and a cuppa at a tiny little cafe. We then headed for Echo Point, Katoomba where you can get a great view of the Three Sisters (there is a rumour that there may have been more than this several tho, so again we got a little snap-happy, and wandered around for a bit up there. Our final stop was at the Scenic World, home of the steepest incline railway in the world, so naturally we had to go on it (it was surprisingly fast and rather scary- almost like a theme park ride)! We then wandered along the Scenic Walkway at the bottom, and caught the Scenic Cableway back up to the top. On my return to the city, Wayne and I rode the skyrail around, trying to catch a view of Darling Harbour, which we'd not really got around to visiting, and then headed to bed early, as we had a 13-hour bus
trip ahead of us to Melbourne the next day - ooh what fun!
