Wasn’t Johnny Morris great?
I can still hear him impersonating ring-tailed lemurs, thirty-plus years on. I do wonder though what he would have made of some of the creatures we have seen in the last few days.
We have spent the last few days in Sydney getting to meet some of the wildlife that hopefully we won’t meet again once we pick up the camper tomorrow…Great White Sharks, Cane Toads, Box Jellyfish, Brown Snakes, Funnel Web Spiders – the list of lethal animals is fairly long!
Both Taronga Zoo (Christmas Day) and Sydney Aquarium (Christmas Eve) proved really successful and fascinating days out. Our journeys to and from both attractions have shown us more of what Sydney is like. We walked to the aquarium through the busy banking district and came back via The Rocks, site of the first European settlement on the continent and now site of some great outside eateries and galleries (inc Ken Done). The ferry to the zoo provided a very different perspective of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and the view from the Sky Train to the top of the zoo gave us 180-degree views over the many bays and inlets that make up the harbour.

Highlights of the trips included:
• Getting up close and personal with a Koala bear
• Confronting our family fear of spiders by meeting some whoppers
• Seeing the new baby elephants trying to play football
• Highly entertaining and informative free bird and seal shows
• Terrifying ourselves in the shark tunnels
• Watching a dugong having a rub-down

After spending three weeks in NZ surprised by the relative lack of wildlife (outside the oceans of course), it seems as if we are about to spend the next couple of weeks traveling by Spaceship© through the world’s most exotic and dangerous ‘safari parks’. One of our campsites prides itself on being home to over 60 different species of bird … what we don’t yet know is how many different species of bugs, that presumably the birds feed on, will be sharing the camper with us!

hello from rainy wales
It was funny to see you. We have looked at the pictures on your blog. They look cool. William looks like me! Are you having fun? When are you coming home? This is my email address so you can email me. We are going to Hay on Wye today. It is very misty and wet. We had lots of fun in the snow on the hill near our house with sledges. We got a Wii for christmas. That's all for now. from Evan.
