Sydney, Home & Away
Published: March 16th 2012Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Rose BayOur first day in Sydney was spent in Mona Vale Hospital. No, it’s not normally on the tourist trail but Michelle took a pearler on the beach whilst exploring rock pools our first morning in Sydney (we had arrived in the dark the night before) and broke her wrist on landing. Yikes, poor thing – it did look dreadfully deformed but fortunately it materialised that it was a clean break and only required plastering and no surgery thank goodness. What I have to say is that the friendliness & kindness of the people on the beach, who witnessed the accident, and the staff in the hospital, was overwhelming. A couple of girls rushed Michelle & Andrew to the hospital and another lady then found me (I was back doing chores at the motor home when this ... read more
Sydney (31 Dec 2010 - 6 Jan 2011)
Published: March 11th 2011Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Rose BayFriday 31st December 2010 Spending most of the day scoping out places to watch the Fireworks, we decided against trying for the botanical gardens and waiting the whole day in the heat and crowds (especially as it’s an alcohol free zone!). A lot of the small beaches near Vaucluse that used to be free to the public have been restricted and are now ticket only - funnily enough, arriving on the 30th they were sold out! We found a great spot near to Rose Bay Girls School with a panoramic view of the bridge and harbour. Only two people were there, although it was only 11am at this point and there were enough picnic tables and chairs saving places to take up most of the front. We gambled and returned at 7:30pm to find hundreds of ... read more
A day on a boat on Sydney Harbour
Published: October 8th 2008Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Rose BayI had a call from Dad last night asking me what I was doing tomorrow. Never sure where these questions might be leading, I told him I had a date with the furniture... sanding it all back in preparation for a paint job and make-over. When he invited me to come out on a little boat with him and a few others on Sydney Harbour instead, the decision was tough but after.. oh, about 0.03 of a second... I'd ditched the restoration and renovation for this far, far, FAR... better offer. Wow, and what a great decision I made...! The weather was just glorious, beautiful blue skies, no wind or big swells. Mum unfortunately had an unbreakable appointment with the dentist (ouch) so couldn't come. But Dad, and their friend Graham Schute, met me at Killarney ... read more
I dont really quite know where to start. I suppose I should start with saying this is really going to be the end of my travels in Australia. I cant believe that I haven't written my blog since Sept. That is seriously slack of me. I think it is also down to a little evil thing called facebook. But I am back now. So, since last Sept, what have I been up to? I think this will have to be a very brief and undetailed run down. After a lot of umming and ahhing when I initially got back from visiting London in Sept I decided I would stay in Aus for the foreseeable future. I was then living very happily with Janet in Rose Bay (very nice part of the world, well that was until ... read more

A nice break from Hostels
Published: March 9th 2008Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Rose BayMarvin picked me up at my hostel, and we drove from Glebe to the Eastern Suburbs, where he and his wife Linda live. They live in an area called Dover Heights which is really gorgeous, and right near Bondi Beach. He told me all about the city as we were driving through, and it was really fun to see the city from a different perspective... with a Canadian accent no less! I learned that Marvin has lived in Australia for more than forty years, and has lived in Sydney for about fifteen. We got to his beautiful home where I met his wife Linda. She is Australian and really nice, and was a very hospitable host despite being in the recovery process from knee surgery. They love to travel around the world, and their favourite place ... read more
