Day 128-129
11th-12th January
On the 11th we just wandering around Sydney a lot really, we had very mixed feelings about this place, it felt an awful lot like london, except it was a lot warmer and everyone was very tanned, very blond and very fabulous looking! We felt a little self conscious with our scruffy clothes! Also, unlike South America, a high percentage of backpackers in Australia are in their early twenties or on their 'gap yah' and while Ellory and i like to get drunk as much as the next person, we don't really do non-stop partying anymore! However we were really looking forward to our first Australian wedding present the next day at the Sydney Opera House, so on the Wednesday, we got all dolled up in our lovely hotel room. It was actually really nice to get all dressed up and we headed down to the harbour early so we could have a drink before the show. We picked a very swish outside bar/restaurant and had a lovely bottle of wine watching the sun set over the water, very romantic! Jackie and Pat, thank you for our wedding present of Australian dollars that allowed us
to do this, it was great!
So slightly inebriated we went into the Opera house and bought ourselves a bottle of sparkling wine to enjoy while we were watching the show and went inside to find our seats. It was set up in cabaret style so there were lots of tables and we had a very friendly bunch on ours and we had a good chat and several drinks with them before the lights went down.
We weren't allowed to take pictures during the show, but needless to say, it was a performance styled around the last supper with lots of funny songs, dances, blasphemy, getting people out from the audience and it was extremely rude! It's was absolutely brilliant and we had such a funny time, think i laughed non-stop from start to finish! Thank you so much to Claire, Dan, Stacey, Dave, Jackie, Paul and Steve for that fantastic wedding present, it was definitely our highlight of Sydney and we're very glad we had the chance to see a performance at the world famous Sydney Opera House!
After the performance we weren't ready to go back to hotel so we went to the outside bar
of the opera house and to our delight, found they sold caipirinhas. Still our favourite cocktail! We then proceeded to get completely and utterly drunk and really really enjoyed our glamourous date night on the other side of the world. We had spent 4 months non-stop together and as we'd never really done that before having had jobs etc in England, it had occasionally gotten a bit stressful, our 'civilised' evening made a nice change and we had a great time 😊
After this point however we both got so drunk we don't remember much else, we did get home safely though!
