Our last road trip with Hayley and Rob was our journey to Sydney from Melbourne!! We headed to Canberra first to visit a family friend of Hayley's, we set off early on the 27th December after saying our goodbyes to Marcia, Ken and Jane. We didn't know if we'd be back in Melbourne so tried not to think of it as too emotional really but it was still sad saying bye after an amazing few weeks with them and how we,come they made us feel.
We headed to Canberra though to visit Marie in Canberra. We had heard a lot about the place, when though it was the capital we had been told it wasn't the most happening of places and I think all four of us can confirm that!! We got to Marie's early evening and she had lots of food in for us for dinner. We all had a chat and and chilled out before dinner and then watched About A Boy! It was a nice first evening and Marie was the perfect host!! We woke up the next day and headed out to the tourist sites, we knew that it wasn't a massive place but visited some
viewing points and the Parliament House as well as seeing where all the medals were hung up for all their soldiers. To be honest, that was about all there was to see so we went to the local store bought picnic supplies and headed to a public outdoor pool. We needed up having a great day, we had a great picnic and Hayley, Rob and Brad raced in the pool all day while I sat and watched haha!! We headed back to Marie's for dinner and the four of us went for a walk! the boys playing football giving me and Hayley time to have a girly chat and nice walk!! The next day we were up for our last drive of the trip with Hayley and Rob driving from Canberra to Sydney!! It was a fairly quickly journey really but as enjoyable as all the rest, we really did have so much fun driving miles over Australia with the two of them, part of our trip we will never forget.
Once in Sydney we headed our desperate ways until New Year's Eve. I was so excited to be there, driving into Sydney and seeing the bridge and Opera
House was so exciting, it really was just like you see it on TV. For me, a bit like the feeling I got when I first visited New York, such an iconic place to visit with lots to explore! Our first afternoon we went for lunch over looking the river and then went for a walk getting to see the bridge up close and the Opera House, which yes, were huge in front of you in real life!! I was a true tourist taking loads of pictures, the smile not leaving my face! We only had one full day until we got to see Kerry, Dave, Margaret and Keith too so the excitement was definitely bubbling for the new year.
On our second day, we took a walk around the city exploring the shops (as always girls!) and the sights, sitting in the park with a nice cream like big kids it was great! In the afternoon we went to the acquarium, this might sound like it's just for kids but I can most definitely say it wasn't and would recommend people to go there when visiting Sydney. The place was huge with so much to see from the
tiniest fish, to penguins, to sharks!! We spent all afternoon there like real geeks but had such a laugh the sharks swimming around us when walking through the tunnel was definitely a highlight! I'll make sure I add some pictures to this post for you to see! We had a quiet night that might as we booked a car to go and pick our four visitors up early the next morning :-). It was a surprise so we were pretty excited but didn't sleep a wink with the thought of seeing Kerry, Dave, Margaret and Keith. We got up the next morning with plenty of time and were at the airport about half an hour early. We waited for what felt like ages and kept thinking we'd hear from Kerry when they landed and they'd click where we were! We didn't though and the surprise was a success! We hid behind a crowd of people as they walked down the ramp and then stood behind them until they turned around and saw us it was definitely a great surprise and so so great to see them after 3 months away from home!
We all squeezed into the car and
dropped everyone at our apartment, me and Brad went and checked out of the hotel and headed back and once we were in e apartment it was like another world, goodbye to the world of travelling (not that we've really had it that had lol) and hello to luxury. The apartment was huge and overlooked the city, a view we will always remember! We all unpacked and settled in and headed out for lunch together to catch up. It was so lovely to have a touch of home and be entering into the new year with family and friends. After lunch we headed to, of course, the liqueur store to stock up for the evening!! After bottles of champagne, wine and beer later we were back at the apartment starting our new celebrations! Hayley and Rob joined us in the evening too and brought along the party hats and party poppers to complete the party haha. We did have a bit of a glitch though when our power cut out!! I think it was off for a good half hour and at one point we were all a bit worried it wasn't coming back on but eventually it did!! We
had a great night drinking lots, eating lots of party food and watching fireworks, face timing home making everyone laugh I can imagine, with our songs and cheering! It was the most enjoyable New Year's Eve I've ever had and the most memorable (well most of it is before I passed out oops!!!) it was the perfect way to start our month together with Kerry, Dave, Margaret and Keith!! Unfortunately I didn't get to say goodbye to Hayley and Rob though so thankfully we all arranged to go for dinner New Year's Day before they left to start the next part of their trip.
So New Year's Day we had dinner planned and all I can say is I'm glad that was all, I was so hungover, the worst I had been in a very long time lol so me and Brad had a chilled out whilst the others went exploring the city. I don't know how they did it, I was in so much pain haha. I made it out to dinner though and we went to a lovely restaurant at The Rocks. It was a really nice way to say goodbye to our travelling buddies Hayley and
Rob as well as hearing how funny I had been dancing, passing out, getting back up oops again!! No, it was great to see them and finish our part if the trip with them with a lovely meal.
I can definitely say our first 2 days with everyone in Sydney was such a laugh and definitely set up how the rest of the month would be, which I'll fill you in on with some more entries!!
Love B&K xxxxxxxx
