Today is our last day in Sydney and we were without our wonderful tour guide, Meg, so I hauled out my Lonely Planet Australia to see what it recommended. Darling Harbour sounded like it could be interesting and then we planned on heading back to the the Rocks later in the day to hopefully catch the market that we kept missing.

We were still resisting the $20 per person breakfast at the hotel but discovered that the huge hostel across the street had a restaurant on the ground floor and they served a very reasonably priced breakfast so we went there for food. I wish we'd gone sooner! Matt got eggs benedict and I got what resembled a full English breakfast (eggs, toast, tomato, hashbrowns, mushrooms, beans) and we both got juice...for $24 for the two of us. MUCH better than the hotel!

After that we walked to the train station to catch the light rail (kind of like a tram) out to Darling Harbour. There's a great shopping center out there and we were able to find some good souvenirs. Then we went to Starbucks and grabbed something warm to drink and watched the street performers that were there. We also walked down towards the Maritime Museum and saw some really cool boats docked in the water. I think our favorite was the old wooden one :)

Once we saw everything that Darling Harbour had to offer us we hopped back on the train to head back into the city. We dropped off our purchases in the room and walked down George Street for perhaps the last time to the Rocks. I'm glad we got there when we did! We didn't realize that the market closed at 5pm! We did one quick circuit through all the of the craft stalls and then ended up back at one that really cool wooden boxes. We got one of those and then stopped at a fudge stand. I got something heavenly called Aussie Mud and Matt got Rocky Road (of course :) ).

Something that we've noticed as we get older and don't want to go to the clubs is that there's nothing to do on a Saturday night in a strange city. We ended up going back to the room and watching TV which, let's face it, even that's a treat for us since we don't have cable at home. I got takeaway fish and chips (takeaway means "to go") from the pub downstairs and brought it back up to the room for Matt and I to eat for dinner. Then we got packed up and went to bed early since we had to be at the train station at 6:30am the next day to head to Canberra.
