So we've discovered McDonald's free internet!! Decided to take a few hours this morning and update the blog and book some buses and hotels.
DAY 1-ish - flying, waiting, flying, waiting some more.... basically describes our trip to get over here. The wait in LA was pretty brutal. Spent 9 long hours there. Think the Australia flights are in the most desolate part of that airport. Van airport was way nicer!! We mostly took turns sleeping on the floor while the other person tried to stay awake and watch our bags. The plane over here was pretty big and awesome!! Had the full 3 seats to ourselves so that helped.... but a long long flight!! We got here and weren't able to check into the hotel until noon.... so we wandered around Hyde Park for 3+ hours and took some pics. When we finally got into the room we were feeling so rough.... had an epic 16 hour sleep and were up at 5 the next am. Took about 3 days to get over the jet lag.
DAY 2 - Walked to Darling Harbour and walked around for a bit..... Benton chatted up a fisherman. We also went to
Paddy's market. Very large....reminded me of the market in Phoenix... lots and lots and lots of junk!! Except there is a small section of produce. We bought a bunch of Kiwi's and some passionfruit which we've been have for breaky ever since...so delicious!
DAY 3 - Went to Sydney Harbour.... breathtaking to see the Harbour bridge and the Opera house in person!! Have so many cool pictures!! We walked around the harbour... got some amazing fish and chips...and then decided to take a ferry to Manly Beach. Spent the afternoon there exploring and sat on the beach for a couple of hours and watched the surfers.... there was a beginner surfing competition going on. As the afternoon went on the waves got bigger and bigger and there were tons of guys out near the rocks getting some pretty sweet waves!! Made us both want to learn how to surf...they make it look so easy 😊
DAY 4 - Had a later start (9am instead of 6am)... finally starting to sleep normal! We wandered down to Darling Harbour and walked all along the warf to Sydney Harbour.... about 5km-ish. Checked out The Rocks area.... so nice.... and trendy! Would
be such a cool place to live... if only you were mega rich! We had a late lunch looking out over the Harbour bridge and the Opera House.... Not a bad view 😉) Then we went up the Sydney tower.... spent sunset up there (apparently it's the same height as the Eiffel Tower) and took some amazing pictures!
And this morning we woke up at 3:30am and went to Sydney Harbour where they have 3 giant screens set up to watch the Australia vs Germany match with 20,000 other people.... all I can say is WOW!!! Was quite an experience.... Too bad Aust lost without scoring at all😞... would have been amazing to hear that crowd cheer for a goal!! They have games down there on the big screens everyday at 9:30pm, 12:30 am, and 4:30am...we're going to check out another one for sure!!
So that's basically it... seems like we've been up to more than that now that I'm reading it! We're having a blast here.... Going to put up some pics too. All for now... S & B
