The weather in Sydney today was rubbish!!! Raining and grey, I shouldn't really complain because you've all probably got the same weather in the UK or worse. Useless fact: Sydney has more rainfall each year than London. Regardless of the weather, I headed out nice and early and started the day by booking my greyhound hop on hop off tour bus to Cairns. It seems like a lot to do in only a few weeks. My first bus would leave at 11pm that evening and arrive at 11am in Byron Bay... nothing like a night bus to remind you you're a traveler!! After getting that sorted i found Paddy's market that sold the usual tat but I managed to resist the urge to buy ugh boots and Aussie tops. I walked to the quay and purchased ... read more

We beat the forces of jet lag, which tried to pin us down with a total of 23 hours of in-flight time. No after-effects, whatsoever. Jord is quite proud of that fact, as it's his first flight of any extended length. We made it through the airport, grabbed a SIM card for my phone along the way and took the airport train to Central Station. Our hostel was just down the road, luckily enough, so we unpacked early and headed out to beautiful Bondi Beach. We walked for hours along the cliffs and rocks, hopped into the crystalline waves, laid down on sand that was a brilliant white and finished by circling into town and ending up at the beachfront once again. Walking makes us hungry, (naturally) so we stopped at a quaint, little Italian restaurant ... read more

So arrived in Auckland airport ready for my flight to Sydney at 3am, so very tired but ready for the next chapter to begin. Now... know matter who you are when you board a flight and sit down you eye ball the isle to see who you'd like to sit next to you and who you most certainly wouldn't. I've never been lucky with this game, however as I sat in the middle seat I thought my luck had changed as a young blonde chick sat down next to me, happy days, then to add to this another blonde Aussie lady sat on the other side. I was already thinking in my head what openning lines I could use!! My luck soon when back to how it was when both girls simultaneously pulled out a vogue ... read more

We got to Sydney the following morning and got a bus out to Bondi Beach, where our hostel was. We checked in and left our bags(we were staying in a dorm the first 2 nights). We got loads of information from the guy a reception, and decided to takea walk along a cliffside path to Bronte Beach. It was a cool day but really sunny, so we sat outside a cafe and had a smoothy once we got to Bronte. The views were really lovely, and there were loads of people out walking and running, and there were plenty of surfers out catching waves. We also saw coloured sands similar to those we saw on Fraser Island. That evening, we cooked in the hostel to save a bit of money. It was a busy hostel- mainly full ... read more

It was a nice, sunny day. We woke up, watched some TV, had breakfast and did everything else. We wanted to do some shopping and go to the beach. So we decided to go to Bondi Beach for a little relaxing day at the beach, and then head off to Bondi Junction which was a massive shopping centre with 6 levels! We caught the bus to Bondi Beach. At the beach, it wasn't busy, maybe because they were all at school. The waves were small and there was some people trying to get a tan. Bondi is one of the most known beaches in Australia. There was a lifeguard tower which was blue and white and had stairs from the sand to the tower. The sun was still shining, luckily we had some sunscream :) After ... read more

It was a tough day. A really tough day. You forget when you are booking everything that you have to check out of a hotel, with all your luggage, and get on the road to somewhere else.. Well the first rule of travelling anywhere should be that you can carry all that you possess. When two very tired children both need to sleep at the same time, and all you have is two pairs of arms and a single buggy (that won't be steered with one hand), it is nigh on impossible to carry two suitcases and three pieces of hand luggage (and I think we packed particularly light). The second rule of travelling with tired kids is that you should go directly to where you are staying. Do not try and fit in a post-wedding ... read more

“Oh my God,” I cried, as I walked over to Matt, “What happened?” “The door fell off,” he replied sheepishly, clutching the side door to our campervan in his arms. I sighed. We had only had our van (which we christened ‘Babs’) for three days. We knew when we were buying her that we’d run into some problems along the way (a 23 year old van tends to break down now and then) but not so soon. And not THIS. This was ridiculous. Parked outside our Bondi apartment, Matt had been giving Babs a bit of spring clean. Upon finishing, he found he couldn’t close the door. So he let his temper get the better of him and slammed it shut with everything he had. As if in response to this direct abuse, Babs’ door came ... read more

And now, the end is near..... I'm devastated - literally - to be leaving Bondi and Sydney today. The overnight bus to Melbourne is not appealing in the slightest, with the only glimpse of optimism coming from the fact I still have a couple of 'knock out drop' painkillers left which will hopefully at least halve the amount of time I'm awake on the 12 hour trek on the greyhound bus. I headed down for a quick last swim at Bondi, having been summoned by a Twitter message from one of the Bondi lifeguards themselves, no less... The sun is baking today but the wind has got up a bit, and there are some cracking waves coming in today and tomorrow. After a bit more lifeguard stalking and failing to catch up with said lifeguard (for ... read more

My Dad wrote a list for me of places he'd visited when he was in Sydney in 1965 and emailed them to me the other day. I thought that it'd be nice if, on my way back from the Blue Mountains, I visited some, if not all, of them just so that I could say that I'd visited them too. Sadly the horse incident put a stop to those plans for Saturday. Today however is Monday and despite the fact my back is giving me serious gip, my face is causing people to stop and stare and my eyebrow looks like a plucking disaster (to almost quote Sam, Heidi's friend, over dinner), I'm going to brave it. I set off into town and had a wander around The Rocks. The streets are quaint and cobbled, and ... read more
