We moved!! From Avalon to Avalon. The new house is awesome! It’s a bit smaller but the yard is sooo cool. There’s an avocado tree, a lemon tree, a grapefruit tree, and some other citrus tree that we don’t know what it is. There’s also a fire pit, a cool patio area and a sweet huge tree that we hang our wetsuits on. The beach is just across the street. It’s a five minute walk down the street and then onto a bike path that goes right to north or south Avalon. I usually go to north Avalon because its closer and you can still check south Avalon from there. The surf has been decent lately. There’s been a bit of a swell in the water. I have a nice little room at the front of the house. I like this house so much more than the other one. Its much lighter and has a more of a homey feel to it. The only problem is that it’s taking forever for our internet and phone to get hooked up. The phone people are imbeciles. They keep telling us three more days. Its been 2 weeks now. Thats why I haven’t written
in awhile.
It was so awesome a couple of days ago Richard and I went to palmy for a surf. The waves were good size overhead. We paddled out and the sky to the south was black with clouds. The lightning started. We would see the bolts across the sky and the crack of the thunder was so loud and it echoed off the hillside giving the whole scene a thrilling effect. Then hell broke loose. The sky went dark, the wind picked up and it started dumping. I couldn’t see shore or anyone around me. The visibility was seriously very little. The rain was dumping so hard. Then it became painful. I flipped up my board to shield myself from the rain. All the time 7-8 ft waves were coming through. It was like something out of a movie. I paddled in and caught a wave to shore. Once on the beach I realized that it was full on hailing. Large grape sized hailstones were coming down and it hurt! I ran to the big rock thats on the beach hung there for a few minutes sheltered from the rain, waiting for Richard. He finally got out and
Path to the surf
5 min walk from our house on this path to the beach we ran to the car. We got changed and hopped in the car. Five minutes later the rain stopped, the sun shone again, and guys were paddling back out. We sat and watched for awhile but the surf had turned to crap and the runoff from the storm was rapidly flowing out to sea turning the waves a chocolate brown. We decided to head home. It was such an awesome experience! Surfing in a storm like that was a new thing for me and I was stoked.
The next day I went for a surf at Collaroy with Jake. The surf there was crap. It was just an unsatisfactory beachbreak. We only surfed for about half an hour and then we went bodysurfing instead. I had a gnarly wipeout though and landed on my board putting a good-sized pressure ding on the bottom. I’m pretty bummed, it’s not too bad but it does suck to ding your board. After surfing we went to Jake’s dad’s soccer game. This was fun to watch. Each suburb has its own soccer teams and they play each other. This was the older team, guys in their 40s-50s. It was funny because there isn’t a
designated coach so they all yell at each other, each one convinced that they are right. At halftime we left because Jake had to go to work and I caught a bus home.
We celebrated Conner’s (Maya’s boyfriend) birthday last weekend. We made a massive brownie cake shaped like a climbing wall. All together combined with the frosting we figured out that the cake had just under a kilo of butter in it!!! I didn’t want anymore after that. Conner turned seventeen and it was a fun night. Oh I don’t know if I told you about Conner. He’s a crazy rock climber. But he just hurt his ankle last month rock climbing. Tore some tendons and now he’s on crutches. So he’s totally bummed.
We went climbing two days ago at the pitch. It was a bouldering session. My second time bouldering. It was intense. I’ve gotten a bit better I think. Now I’m sore. It was crazy! Conner did this gnarly climb flawlessly using only one foot and not having climbed for a month. It was this crazy roof climb that looked impossible. He made it look easy. Can’t believe that he could do it without using a
foot. It was crazy.
Today I was home alone so I checked the surf at Avalon. It was no good. Then Richard called me and said Newport looked good so I grabbed my stuff and caught a bus to Newport. The surf was super fun. Just three guys out and good lefts and rights. Surfed for about an hour and a half. Came in and caught a bus home. I was proud of myself flying solo on the buses. I have it sorta figured out how to get to the nearby suburbs.
I have soccer training Friday. That should be fun. The team seems reasonably good. We have our first game the day we get back from holidays. Oh yeah I have two weeks off since it’s the end of term.
Just got back from soccer training. It was a good workout. Only half the team was there but we look pretty good. I just set up the internet so I can finally get some blog entries up.
