Day three. Today we did the short trip up to Nambucca Heads and we are staying in the White albatross Holiday Park on a Lagoon Water Front site for a couple of nights. We stayed here around 10 years ago when we had the bus and I must say it was a great park then and it has only improved since then. What a great park. We will definitely return to this park again in the future as it has everything, well set out, close to the break wall, great amenities and facilities which are all very modern and kept very clean. The weather is also perfect and I just couldn't help going for a swim in the lagoon after a walk out to the break wall. The only thing that made the day even better ... read more

Monday 25th Off early and our first stop is Trial Bay Gaol in Arakoon NP. It's a ruin of a gaol built in the 1800's and used for criminals to build a breakwater and many years later to intern German citizens during the war. It's quite interesting and located in a beautiful spot. Not many interns bothered to try and escape ! We then drive on for about 55 miles and just as we reach our over night site in Port Macquire, it pours again and I have to pull over as the wipers can't cope. After booking in we drive into town and sort out a lunchtime river cruise for tomorrow. Hope the weather's going to be ok ! we then stock up with more wine before driving round to the town's look out and ... read more

Next stop after Rocky, was the thriving little community of Tannum Sands, which has a symbiotic relationship with another adjourning community known as Boyne Island. The local footy (rugby), bowls and golf clubs are known as ‘BITS’ Golf etc. Quaint. BITS is just a little south of Gladstone and the tropic of Capricorn, and as with most Queensland coastal areas is a great spot for fishing – if you have a boat. As with most Queensland coastal areas it also boasts a healthy population of sandflies. It seems that just when you think you have got over the little blighters, more itchy red spots appear on any exposed limbs. We by-passed the next lot of twin towns of 1770 and Agnes Waters, and headed for Hervey Bay. One of Margaret’s old family friends lives there and ... read more

We spent a lovely few days at Nambucca Heads. I love it here, it is a beautiful place and a lovely small town. Nambucca Heads is a coastal holiday town with a perfect subtropical climate, and is just a 512 km drive north of Sydney halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. With a permanent population of around 7000. Nambucca Heads is located at the mouth of the Nambucca River, which runs into the Pacific Ocean, and is renowned for its beautiful climate and stunning beaches. The word 'Nambucca' derives from an aboriginal word from the local Gumbaynggir tribes, and means 'entrance to the waters' or 'crooked river'. Whilst staying at Nambucca we visited the Island Golf Course, the beautiful beaches and drove down to Macksville and Scotts Head. There is a long breakwall, down at the mouth ... read more

Drove to Nambucca Heads today, visiting Bellingen on the way and arriving at about 12ish. We are staying at "The Headland" Caravan Park in a prime position on the clifftop. We had some excitement when we unhitched the van and it began to slip down the slope!! A few bricks under the wheels solved that problem. Grilled barramundi and chips for lunch...yum It is actually warm and the sun is shining through the clouds. We went down for a swim in the sea and a walk on the beach, followed by a visit to the lookout. It is lovely to be by the sea again. ... read more
