I'm Here

I made it.
November 21, 2007
I have been delinquent in updating this blog but I will attempt to add pictures to it here tonight. I am now starting to realize this isn't a holiday - I actually live here! Which means I need to stop eating and drinking and lazing about like I'm on vacation or I'm not going to fit into the camo ;o
I have been off this week too - running errands, making dinner (pad thai for the flatmates and friends was a hit), little bit of shopping, drinking cider, swimming in the pool, etc. I'm sorry it's snowing there - really, I am. I RSVP'd for the work Christmas party which is November 30 during the day. I thought maybe since it is from 10:00am to 6:00 pm, it may not be a drinking party but Steve and Cat said "This is Australia - there will be drinking!" Wow - what more could I want here! And don't worry - there will be no 'gala behavior'.
And the party may soon be over... Jan, my boss is back in Australia from a long business trip in the US and she called today. I think I may actually have to

My first glimpse of the beautiful Australian Beaches. I spent a lot of time getting over jet lag on this one.
start work! Just in time for the Christmas party at least. She's going to come to the apartment to meet me tomorrow, have tea and drop of my computer - yet another sign I may actually have to do something resembling work.
This weekend I've been invited to a 'meet the newbies' bbq on Sat. (another of Cat's friends has a new flatmate) and white water rafting on Sun. I will have to leave the rafting for another time however since I will be attending Len's Christmas party - virtually. That is if I can get my new webcam up and running!
I assembled my bike today without problem - I would like to get out in the neighbourhood for a spin to 'suss out' some running paths - I need to do something to work off these damned Tim Tams!! A car is still a bit of a longshot at this point...we'll see.
If you want to pass this link along, I think it's www.mytb.org/Trish-Code.
The photos are pretty small but you get the idea - I shrunk them to 25% - maybe I'll go 50% next time.

Even on a cloudy day it's impressive.

Catherine let me tag along with her one Saturday. This is driving over the bridge.

Same cloudy day. Apparently there are good tours to take of the building - quite the engineering feat. Maybe will catch a show here - what will I wear?!

Weekday Manly Beach

Well, this beach is a 5 min walk from 'home'. This is a shot during the week. It's a very popular surf beach and vacation spot. More surfing lessons required before attempting I think.

This is the little beach cove where the locals go to get away from the tourists of Manly. Again, 5 min walk!

Another shot from the beach. Those are divers on the left. The area is a marine park and I dove not far from here last week.

Or what my English flatmates call 'Our Local'. It's the place to be and is right on Manly Cove. Apparently Sunday night is the best night (we had beer and nachos there last Sunday and there was quite a 'view'.

This is one of my favorite spots. Manly Cove is between our apartment on the penninsula and the Ferry Wharf/Manly Wharf Hotel. So I walk by this every day twice to my bus to work!

Just love the colours of the water here. The skiff sailing club (skiffs 16ft and less, good bar) and the yacht club (probably won't be allowed in) are to the left of Manly Cove. Our apartment is up to the left.

You can see the Ferry going to the docks. They run every 1/2 hour and we watch them from our balcony.

Our penninsula is one of the only places on the East Coast of Australia to see the sun set.

This is a view from our balcony. The bay is a marine sanctuary and will be perfect for snorkelling from our private beach. There's normally lots of activity though - sailing, ferries, parasailing, kayaks, windsurfing, swimming, etc.

No pressure - just everyone's dinner! Cath helped by adding beer to the burgers - a trick she learned in Canada!

Hi Trish!
Great photos....thanks for posting. Loving that you are so happy - the smile is infectious - even as we await the first snow storm of the year. If you get the chance when you do start your job at 3M say hi to our aussie friend in IATD - Damian Jones - from Nuno and I. Keep up the blogging - it's awesome ;-) Bye-bye. Aurora.
