“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. climb that goddam mountain” - Jack Kerouac On 12th May we bade farewell to Seventeen Seventy and set sail for a tiny beachside town by name of Woodgate Beach which was about 180km further south. Avoiding the A1, we threaded our way onto the Tableland Road which is where the back country and real heart beat of a country is found. Apart from gazing out front at the scenery unfolding, it is always of interest to tune into local radio chat shows. On this occasion some interesting conversation was taking place on ABC centring mainly on the upcoming federal election. At some point it had been arranged that the current PM, Scott Morrison, would call ... read more

Always beautiful in northern NSW. From camping at Lake Ainsworth to staying in holiday houses on the esplanade with views of the beach. Fantastic place to ride or walk into town or even right up to the headland where you might see the whales pass by. Or maybe watch the dolphins play. You can walk into town on the beach or on the quiet main street. We make use of the quiet streets by riding everywhere. Some lovely restaurants to try - great Thai!. Quite a few cafes to visit. Some nice little clothing stores to check out but most of the time you are lazing on the beach or SUP on the lake. The local club has something on most nights whether it be karaoke, muso jam session or the footy! The local SLSC opens ... read more

Zij gingen de kakoda memorial trialrun doen ter ... read more

Last time I wrote I was so excited, delighted and full of happiness… I must say its still the same feelings and emotions inside of me. Right now we have parked the car on top of a hill south of Byron Bay called Lennox Head. The sun has just gone down and the rain is falling lightly outside. We are curled up in our van planning our next adventures and the following days expeditions… We ended up in this right spot because of a friendly soul. I will get back to that later. First I need to write about our last days in this massive but absolutely stunning country. After flying into Brisbane on Saturday (I think ?! Its hard to keep track on what day it is…) we picked up our extremely extraordinary Wicked van ... read more

Ok, we haven’t written a blog for over a month so there will be two in rapid fire succession. One covering the things Shelagh and I have been up to on our own and one covering the exciting two weeks that our friends Katrina and Simon came to visit. And by exciting, I mean drinking. It was a sign of things to come when I picked them up at the airport at 10 am and took them home to shower, unpack etc. Within an hour Kat had opened the bottle of nice white Shelagh bought in a vineyard near Canberra and Simon had begun his investigation of Australian Craft beer. It happened to be the day of the Melbourne Cup – The race that stops a nation – so we headed out to meet Shelagh at ... read more

What better way of spending a long weekend than to book accomodation for a relaxing break to experience fresh sea air, explore a new area and get out of the city. What a good idea and so we thought but we had not anticipated the 100mms of torrenetial rain that was to fall over the three days we had chosen to get away!!! We drove down Saturday morning via Mullumbimby, the town that claims to be the Biggest Littlest Town in Australia! Well we were not sure about that but it was a sleepy little place with some rather unusal buildings that were certainly stuck in a time warp, there was however a delightful art gallery which was well worth a visit. The drive to Minyon Falls was along a winding road that took us up ... read more

Lennox is so gorgeous that, for the first time during our trip, we reversed our travel direction and headed back south for a couple of days. There were no regrets and it was definitely worth it! I went to a Sivananda yoga class with www.yogawhitelotus.com in the beautiful circular ‘loft’ at the Lennox Head Community Centre. It was the Sivananda tradition that got me into yoga several years ago and it was so lovely to come back to it. The teacher, Madhava, had actually lived, trained and taught at the Sivananda Yoga and Vedanta Centre in London which I used to go to. Small world! I’d highly recommend White Lotus to anyone in or passing through the area. The next morning we headed back to our lovely little gym, checked out th... read more

We woke up to beautiful sunshine and a stunning view of the ocean and a seemingly never ending beach… so decided to hang around Lennox Head for the morning, before driving on to Byron Bay. Lennox is just gorgeous and flew straight onto the ‘wonderful places’ list. It is unspoilt, relaxed, friendly, beautiful and peaceful. Its ‘centre’ is literally just one long strip of shops opposite the beach but there is much more behind the scenes. Being fairly upmarket and modern, Lennox has a very cool Cultural Centre and you can tell it’s got a great community spirit. There is so much on offer - from cookery classes to every imaginable type of yoga – that you could keep busy for quite some time. We tried out the local gym and ticked off the need for ... read more

Blog Six - New South Wales Exiting the Tasmania ferry, at 6:30 am., we found ourselves once again driving through Melbourne, only this time we didn't get lost!!! We were unaware of what awaited us South of Sydney and were more than pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the Sapphire Coast. Once again we came upon one secluded white sand beach abutted with dense forest after another. We were able to take time out to stop, walk, and enjoy this coastline. After four days of secluded campsites, we arrived in Sydney where we decided to urban camp on the outskirsts of the city and use the trains, buses, ferries, and our feet to get around. We were surprised at how easy it was once we learned how. Sydney boasts being the most beautiful city in the ... read more

Rain, rain and more rain. I can't remember the last time it rained so much. And to think we are camping close to a lake and the sea. Still, it is the Bathurst car racing weekend so at least one of us has something to do. Byron Bay is very close by so a quick trip in for coffee was a nice break. Many cafes, hippy clothing shops and other interesting places to browse. Lennox Heads I'm sure is a beautiful place when it is not raining. Sunday morning markets by the lake, then a stroll along the beach in the rain certainly cleared the cob webs away. ... read more
