Just 2 and a half hours on the train down from Sydney and you'll reach the coastal town of Kiama.
I hopped of the train and immediately headed towards the famous... blow hole to discover that today, on this very rare occasion, it had decided it didn't want to blow. Well that was pretty much the reason I'd gone down to Kiama so what next?
I walked around the town which is fairly old by Australian standards and looked at the old and interesting architecture. The post office and the church were my favourites but that may have just been because they were pink and yellow (respectively.)
I then decided tha tit was time to see a bit more coast and it really was impressive even with the dark grey sky staring down upon it. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the Sun with all the leafy downs surrounding it.
After my little walk, I visited the historic shops (lots of little old shops selling all sorts of random things) and then after a walk in the park decided to walk along the coast in the opposite direction.
It was extremely hilly but after getting to the top the view over the other hills and beaches was worth the climb. It was strangely a more rocky, rugged coast on this side than the other but just as pretty. I decided to start walking to Bombo when lightening struck, the thunder started to roll by and I once again, felt the heavens open. Luckily, I no longer leave the flat without my trust umbrella and I started the return to Kiama.
On the way back, Jen text me to say that she and her family were on the way down to Kiama too! Given that I a) hadn't seen Jenny in a year and b) just missed my train, I decided to stick around for bit.
I met Jenny at the non-existent blow hole which, according to Jen actually blew after I left, and then went to catch up over ice-cream.
We wandered around Kiama for a bit and it was then time for me to leave. So cool to hang out with Jen and meet her Aussie family – wish she could have stayed out in Oz a bit longer.
