Jindabyne to Bathurst (Kandos)
Published: April 15th 2013Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneWe left Jindabyne at about 8 in the morning. It was a beautiful day! Partly cloudy, and a nice temperature (probably upper 50s when we left). The scenery here also is without words. Passing by Lake Jindabyne was breathtaking. And unfortunately wasn't able to take many pictures (none while moving) do to some camera case issues that I can hopefully resolve soon... Again, pictures pending a good net connection! The first leg of the day was Jindabyne to Cooma, which went pretty quickly. The original plan was to bypass Canberra and take some side roads to the east of Cooma, but this included more dirt. As such, we decided to avoid it. I didn't want a repeat of the other day! We had a brief pit stop in Queanbeyan outside of Canberra, then headed northeast toward ... read more
Just 20 days have passed since I sat down to write the last blog, and in that time there's been festivals, weekend trips, picnics, movies, new friends, wildlife spotting, plenty of goodbyes, mountain climbing, enough food to end world hunger, lake-swimming and, wait for it......, money coming IN to my bank account. With so much to talk about, this may end up being quite a long blog entry. So, go and put the kettle on, grab a chocolate biccy, and prepare yourself for the long-haul with the novel that this entry will no doubt become. First up - Trop-fest. The worlds biggest short film festival. The main event is in Sydney, but big screens all over Australia show it. I went along with a Melbourne local who knew how to do Trop-fest well. It was a ... read more
Finally Get A Chance To Post, Its A Long One!
Published: June 18th 2011Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneFinally I get the ability to post on here...Anyways so what has happened so far? Well I began my trip meeting someone on the airplane who was meeting his fiance in Melbourne, The flight went well. Actually it went amazing, it didn't even feel like 14 hours! So Melbourne, I stayed there for a Week and a day. Melbourne: My first day was just simply exploring, I walked everywhere it seemed, from the hostel in North Melbourne to the Docklands then Downtown and so on. I found my most favourite place in the world that day, Queens Victoria Market!!! That place was amazing, a food lovers heaven! From fresh fruit, meat, bread, cheeses...ahh I must have walked through it every day it was open! So my first day was good, second I walked around some more ... read more
Sorry for lengthy blogs, but these are as much for my benefit as anyones. Today was a true adventure for me and Iris. I left the town of Shepperton Vic and headed through Albury to see an old friend. It had been 6 years since catching up last and it was so lovely to see him, happy, married with a baby, and settled. As I headed off for the snowy mountains, I got to thinking about past, present and future and I realized that time moves fast, and if you dont pay attention, so many things can pass you by. While my reflections ran deeper than this today, I realized it was easy to feel nostalgic as I drove through the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in Australia. That's the thing about natural beauty, ... read more
Home among the Gumtrees!
Published: September 13th 2009Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneWell where do we start! No really, where do we start! Its been over 3 months since we posted a blog. The reason for this is that we've been hidden away in a national park in the middle of nowhere (not exactly true), with limited or no Internet access and masses and masses of work has meant that we've been far to busy anyway! Ok so the partying and snowboarding also took up quite a bit of our time as well. So we arrived at the Ski Rider Hotel Motel with little idea of what we were getting ourselves into. For a start we didn't appreciate that we would for the next 3 months be "stranded" in the middle of Kosiousko National Park, half an hours drive down the road to the nearest town of Jindabyne ... read more

It's Always Snowing Somewhere
Published: September 30th 2009Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneCarissa and I have recently returned from 3 months living and working in the beautiful snowy mountains. The answer is yes- it really was as fun as it sounds. The snow was fantastic and there was never any shortage of folk coming down to visit and take advantage of the free couch. Our lovely flatmate Jen was very gracious in accommodating all our couch-surfing friends. Carissa worked at the Thredbo Pharmacy where sunscreen, crutches, Dencorub and knee braces were the order of the day. I worked in hospitality for a resort owned by Perisher which meant a free season pass. Carissa worked a 3 day on 3 day off rotating roster while I worked the breakfast and dinner shifts, which meant plenty of time was available to us to get up the hill and get our ... read more
Melbourne to Snowy Mountains
Published: March 8th 2009Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneLast couple days I was on the Oz Experience bus... I am really enjoying travelling this way. The guide was fantastic and I have been able to finally meet some new people. The road between Melbourne and Sydney is the one less traveled. The first day we stopped at a Vineyard outside of Lakes Enterance. The owner was this little old man and what a pervert.... we were instint freinds. $2.00 for 2 hours of wine tasting from his vinyard. i can guarantee that he did not make any money of off me. I am sure that i treid every wine at least 3 times and even sipped the port. The guide eventaully came back in to say " Candy mate, EVERYONE else is sitting on the bus waiting to leave... is it ok if we ... read more
Day 7 - Jindabyne to Dalgety
Published: February 4th 2009Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneJindabyne to Charlotte Pass After a leisurely breakfast and a session at the Internet Cafe I headed up the road to Charlotte Pass. The road was much as I remember it from 30 years ago when I rode it on a bicycle, but I have no doubt it is now wider and better surfaced than it was in those days. It is a series of loooong uphill stretches, each followed by a much shorter downhill - until the end of the road is reached at Charlotte Pass. The return journey is naturally mostly downhill but being on a motorcycle this time it was not nearly as exhilarating heading back to Jindabyne as it was on the bicycle. Jindabyne to Dalgety After a brief visit to the Snowy Mountains Information Centre I decided to take a trip ... read more
Day 6 - Khancoban to Jindabyne
Published: February 2nd 2009Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » JindabyneKhancoban to Thredbo The Alpine Way from Khancoban to Thredbo is a very tight and twisty road with constant signs reminding about the dangers of falling rocks and slippery surfaces. Much of the road is signposted at 60km/h so there is little opportunity to ride at a speed which leads to dangerous situations. Some of the views are spectacular, with massive peaks in the background and green forests in the foreground. Again, there are many areas where the main feature is skeletal burnt trees from the fires a few years ago. All areas are recovering, but the effects will be obvious for many years to come. Thredbo village was quiet compared to how it must be in the winter months, but still had a significant number of people taking part in the various summer activities. It ... read more
