Heading South/West

Left home, Newcastle 23rd November 2012 travelled to Kangaroo Valley, near Bowral. Next Currarong near Nowra and out to Braidwood along the Shoalhaven River. Down the coast stopping at Batemans Bay and Mystery Bay, near Narooma. On to Cooma, then Wagga Wagga following the Murrumbidgee River through Narrandera to Darlington Point 35 km south of Griffith.

1905 Paddle Steamer Lift Bridge. It has been moved from the Murrumbidgee River to the entrance of the park.
It's been a while since the Lonie Rangers have blogged. Dave's been busy with poetic ramblings and I with photographic pursuits. Due to popular demand we have resurfaced. This time I'll be adding short blurbs with snaps (not photography) and Dave will add special issues to interest, delight and tickle your fancy I'm sure.

Darlington Point, you may wonder where, what and particularly why?

A small town on the Murrumbidgee River, 35km south of Griffith. We've been camping along the river for the past month and it started as a raging current up stream and has been dwindling the further we travel down stream. This is due to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Canals pumping 1.2 megalitres of water out to water crops.

Why do we stay here for over two weeks? Beautiful walks along the river, tracks to bike ride, a gentle current to kayak up stream and cruise down and heaps of dirt bush roads to drive and discover other little oases along the river.

Yes it's a busy life!

This caravan park is in a bush setting. We're camped in amongst those trees. Lilly and I enjoy swimming here.

Flat land, straight roads, great for growing crops. These Irrigation Canals are everywhere.

Guns are set up to keep the birds away from the crops. Bullet shells are often lying around.

Met some lovely young people and I did some photo shoots for them by the river. I even overcame my fear of horses. From left Kimberley (Nikki the horse), Ashley (Cruise), Danielle (Ace), Callum (Lena)

Not much in Darlington Point as you'll see. There is also a Sports Club but o so bland and greasy food.

Told you not much here. 1000 population. We are 35 km south of Griffith. That's where we head for shopping and services.

We find ourselves on bush tracks, another bend in the river, another swim and a cuppa. Small things amuse us.
