Thursday 30th January, 2014. - Collaroy, NSW, Australia After breakfast we packed, checked our shoes for beasties, said our goodbyes to Chris and exchanged email and phone numbers so we can keep in touch in order to meet up in Melbourne. Then we walked down to Halls Wharf to wait for the 11.45 ferry. The tide was in and the beach looked lovely. Shame we weren't staying as the water looked very inviting. D walked to the end of the wharf and placed the red flag in the flag holder. This is the singal to the Ferry driver that he needs to come and pick people up. Church Point Ferry provides ferry services from Church Point, situated on Pittwater in the northern suburbs of Sydney. The ferry prvides an hourly service to Scotland Island, Ku-ring-gai Chase ... read more

Day 10-17 I’ll try to summarize the last week because I’ll probably forget the order of events! Tuesday was Australia day but we didn’t really do much, Australia Day eve was the big outing. Tons of families were on the beach for the holiday when I went to lay on the beach for a bit. I went with my friends Charlotte, Ryan and Joe. Me and Charlotte laid out while the boys went surfing. I still haven’t mustered up the courage to try it, every time I see someone have the board flip over on top of them it really doesn’t give me much motivation to try it! The weather has been a little cloudy on and off with some rain but it’s stayed consistently 80-90 degrees. Even though that sounds hot there’s been days it’s ... read more

Day 8 - January 24-25, 2010 It’s been a fun filled couple days so I’ve gotten a bit behind on my blogging! Day 8 I arrived at the YHA on Collaroy Beach. It’s basically a giant beach house, like the Jersey Shore but…in Australia lol. When I first got here it was a bit of a change from the new hostel I had just been in that had 1 bathroom per 4 people, air conditioning and a view of the Opera House. There is no AC here, just a little less modern and there’s 6 to a room, at least for the cheapest rate I pay! Plus, I knew no one which has continued to be a bit overwhelming at times. So I finished my blog from a few days ago and went for a walk ... read more

It seems people are reading the blogs, I've had some hassle because it's been so long since the last time! Unfortunately we were in the middle of bloody of nowhere, Australia. So here's a bumper blog to keep y'all happy! So after a month away from home, I thought I'd share some of my discoveries .................1. There are no bloody snakes in Australia, they are a myth. 2. Ozzie coinage is supersized, far too heavy for the pocket. 3. Backpacking is good for the soul but bad for the clothing! (I've worn out a pair of jeans, trainers, thongs and all my light coloured tops are an off-yellow colour now :( ) 4. Ozzie folk as a collectice are probably the friendliest group ever. 5. Low-carb beer = 'healthy' alternative to Stella. 6. Dolmades = the ... read more

Now, everyone knows how EXCITED I was about a trip back to Sydney ... and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Didn't head home for any particular reason so had plenty of time for catching up with family and friends - a perfect trip (if only it was a bit longer). It's lucky there are only three meals in a day (plus morning and afternoon tea of course) or I would have had to roll onto the plane. I think I managed to book myself in for an 'event' for nearly every meal. Was great to see the family (well, the parents and extended family anyway, Si was in the US), and catch up with all my mates. Thanks to everyone who made the time to see me - it was fab to catch ... read more

Nu har vi varit i Sydney trakten i nastan tva veckor, och det kanns som om vi bara traskat runt pa Work and Travel Companys kontor och pysslat med ansokningar till skidortsjobben... New Years Eve 2006 - Collaroy, NSW, Australia (about 45 mins north of Sydney) Dearest friends and family! We have been in Australia for about three weeks now, and have safely arrived at Nick’s Mum and Dad’s place in Collaroy. We have had an amazing time, so full of traveling, seeing good friends, doing some sightseeing... in a way it’s hard to believe it’s only been a few weeks because so much has happened and on the other hand, yes time has flown and sometimes it feels like it’s only been a few days. We got to Brisbane at 7:30 am Sunday morning Dec 10th after a 24 hour journey (altogether) from Edmonton via Seattle and LAX (Nick flew from Vancouver and we met at the LAX gate) and then onto Brisbane. Qantas rocks, so comfortable ... read more

Okay, so first off. We are safe and sound in Sydney, no explanation needed for this title. Now a few interesting details about our departure from NZ and arrival in OZ. We had a lovely last night in the Christchurch. We had a very lovely dinner at an awesome restaurant near Cathedral Square. We said goodbye to Sue, the sweet woman who ran the bed and breakfast and was responsible for the plate fulls of scrambled eggs, bacon (shoulder is preferred over streaky), and eggs bennedict. We then stopped by "ginz.com", the travel agency who did such a wonderful job helping us organize our 4 weeks in NZ because they had some suggestions for OZ. Leaving with a handful of brochures and printouts, we headed towards the airport, stopping at the Antarctic Center on the way. ... read more

Day: -1 (Jan. 30, 2006) Location: Narrabeen, NSW In 2 days I'll be pushing off. Today, I just had a paddle - out of Narrabeen Lake into the ocean & up the coast a bit. Hardly any wind, little surf. A lot of the 'luminescense' (sp?) in the water - paddle dipping, bow wake, 'torpeoes' of fish trails when spooked by me. Tomorrow I'll turn in my rental car and do a final packing of gear. Though I've done a 'test' packing of the gear at home (in the US), I haven't actually packed the kayak yet (though it is the same gear, and the same (design of) kayak - so it should fit. In the past week I've been testing the boat a bit - some surf and ling the coast. When I leave on ... read more
