Bus
Our bus had tvs! Nothing to watch though... Monday February 23 was the day we left Port Macquarie. Our bus was mid day, so that meant carrying around our stuff while biding some time. Our bags are big and heavy, but we’d been getting used to them. The bus ride to Coffs Harbour was another 3 hours. Once in town, we were picked up by a courtesy bus that would take us to the hostel. A lot of hostels have this, which is extremely handy when it’s located several kilometers out of town. That night we checked out the local port, and relaxed at the hostel. Long bus rides definitely take a lot out of you!
The next day was a fairly lazy day. I had been given a head’s up from a roommate that the community centre next door had some free wireless internet, so I definitely took advantage of that while Hillary slept in. We then chilled after lunch, and even had a little nap time. That afternoon though, we checked out Muttonbird Island. It’s this very cool little island right off the port, which is used by birds for nesting. From a far, it looks like a giant mound of grass, but when you get

Great scenery as usual. closer, you realize that the WHOLE island is covered in burrows where these birds lay their eggs. In fact, a raised walking path had to be set up in order to allow visitors to see the island, without damaging the nests! Once back to the hostel, it was pizza night again! Definitely something Hillary and I could get used to. Lol
Wednesday we decided to check out the Pet Porpoise Pool, which is basically a dolphin and seal show. Hillary was determined to accomplish one of her life goals, which was to pet a dolphin. Years ago she had chickened out of the opportunity back at Sea World, and had decided this was the time to make things right. Lol Well, mission accomplished! In fact, not only did we both pet a dolphin, we even got seal kisses and fed some penguins! Considering it didn’t cost very much, it was definitely worth every penny!
Thursday was our exploring day. We took a nice long walk by the river all the way into town. It was great to walk along the river because we got to see all these tiny crabs popping in and out of their homes in
YHA
The YHA hostel in Coffs Harbour was pretty new, and very nice. the mud under our raised walkway! Very cool! After some lunch we headed back to the hostel so we could go to the beach. The hostel was really nice and modern, and even had a pool, so we hadn’t yet made it down to the beach to relax yet. We were determined to give it a try on our last day, but unfortunately the weather was not the greatest. In fact, we were both lying on the beach chilled, with sand being blown in our faces. We lasted an hour with neither of us admitting to the other that we wanted to leave, but eventually we figured it was time to head back. Lol We packed our things up that night, because the next morning we were leaving “dark” and early for Yamba.
