From the bright lights and almost trashy paradise we moved to the hippy Nirvana of Byron Bay. Byron Bay is all about relaxing, chilling out and taking it easy. It has a great laid back and hippy feel to it.

A trip to Byron is a trip to the most easterly point in Australia. Now what that means is that we have been to the most far east as you could possibly go, further than the Far East itself! Lol

Byron allowed us to get really hippy with a tour to the infamous town of Nimbin. It is a small community of happy-herb smoking people all trying to sell a little bit of their happiness to you. In seriousness they are a community trying to get cannabis legalised. Their success rate – well the jury’s still out! :P It was a pleasant enough day trip – not something to lose sleep over if you miss it though; unless you want to get a little happy of course!

Now the more sporty and adventurous of society would revel in a bit of kayaking in the big sea with the potential to see Dolphins. However, the day was a let down with rain spoiling our tour and then two un-sporty individuals in a kayak paddling for their life! Looking back on it, it was a laugh and definitely a sport I could do. Imagine paddling a kayak in the middle of the sea along with our aquatic friends the whales, dolphins and turtles. Apparently though the dolphins were a little to shy and we didn’t get to see anything. The company we went with did have an option to go out again however we were leaving the next day. Never mind – we’ll have a tea party next time we see them! 

Byron gave us an opportunity to go round the twist. Now, those of you that are old enough to remember a children’s programme called Round the Twist will know that it was an Aussie show about three kids and their Dad that lived in a lighthouse. Well Byron boosts it’s own light house and we relived memories of the children’s tv show while looking out at the big ocean that could take us all the way to America as well as some stunning beaches that Byron has to offer. We got a little nostalgic and are now looking forward to finding the real lighthouse where the show was shot – though there seems a little confusion; someone said it’s on the Great Ocean Road and someone else said it’s somewhere else completely. Let’s wait and see and will definitely let you guys know when we’ve gone round the twist!I
