We have spent the past week in Byron Bay, staying at the Byron at Byron resort and spa. It was every bit as nice as it sounds!
The coach trip down was great. We travelled with Country link, who are like our National Express, so it was air conditioned, thankfully! We had to change coaches at a town called Casino. We had an hour to kill, so had a look around. It was a funny little place, a bit sruffy and industrial, very small. Anyhow, by the time we got to Bryon Bay, it was dark and I realised that I had no idea what to do once I got off the coach! The resort is a couple of miles out of town, and the coach company had told me that I could get a taxi from the coach stop. Needless to say I couldn't! The town was full of pissed up gap year students and stoners, and I was pulling along a tired child, and three suitcases (we had to buy anthoer one in Brisbane, due to all the shopping we are doing!)so I was very pissed off by this point. We finally located a taxi rank helped by
a couple of pissed girls from Newcastle, and thankfully didn't have to wait long for a cab.
Anyhow, the hotel! It was amazing! I have been lucky enough to stay in some lovely hotels in my time, but this was by far the best ever. The rooms are studio apartments, in two story houses in in the rain forrest. There are only 40 all together, and the views over rainforest from the balconies are amazing. The hotel has walkways bilt all the way through the forrest, and its own acces to Tallow Beach. The picures do not do the room or the resort justic, it was beautiful. The weather was great too. Oh, and the infinity pool (and kids pool) were wonderful, we spent a lot of time relaxing round the pool and eating in the hotel resteraunt. After all the sightseeing and rushing of Sydney, and the excitmet of seeing our friends in Brisbane, it was just what we both needed.
We went into the town evey day as well, spent a lot of time on Byron Bay beach. I liked the town, although it was very much geared towards the whole hippy backpacker market. All overpriced
incense and gem stones. It was nice enough though, and there were a few nice clothes shops and some great places to eat.
The best beach we have found though is at Tallow Bay, just the other side of the peninsular from Byron Bay, with a little walkway to it from our hotel. While Byron Bay beach was a little crowded, this beach was almost deserted. You had to be a little careful, because of the jelly fish (although we have only seen one, far up on the sure) but it wsa just magical. The scenery was breathtaking, we didn't want to leave.
I am so sad to be leaving here, so is Buddy, we love it. We have spent our last day haning our in the pool and the gardens, doing the rainforrest walks and eating sweets. I could cry!
We are getting the bus to Casino in a little while, so we can catch the overnight train to Sydney. I have never been so sad to leave anywhere.
Sunbathing!Even though there are some clouds in the pics, they cleared quickly, and the weather was very hot and sunny
