this afternoon we arrived at Byron bay, interstingly the most eastern point of eastern Australia, and we are HUGELY excited to be here!! But before i get ahead of myself, our time has been
JAM PACKED over the last few days!! on wednesday we went for a trip to the blue mountains (which unfortunately due to the time of year weren't very blue), and had a GREAT day! we started off by going 'roo spotting, and shortly after we were introduced to a huntsman spider which our guide dug out of its hole- not something you should do at home apparently!! fortunately for us it wasnt too big PHEW, and i can confirm its NOT a pet we would like to keep!!! afterwards we went for a stroll, down the side of the valley to view lots of natural waterfalls. after possibly the coldest lunch hour we have ever endured, we had another walk and the took at bus back up the side of the mountain, at 52 degrees to the ground- you literally felt as though you were standing!! Thursday saw us navigating our way through Syndey - and yes, we managed it no problem (!!!)- to the opera house, and the harbour brgide, which are both sufficeintly massive!! The days have been lovely sunny though the wind really cuts you!! We have had a lovely introduction to staying in hostels at the Wakeup! hostel in Sydney- our room mates seemed to be nocturnal, and after befriending us decided waking us up for a chat at two o'clock in the morning (when we had to be up at 5 to catch our bus) would be the sensible option!! And the sleeptalking . . its been interesting, though it seems to have made Amber completely set on setting up shop in Ireland for the rest of her life! (by the way they were all Irish).
on friday we had a whole day of travelling to surf camp, where it THREW it down all night, but upon waking up this morning we had brilliant fun learning to surf, the waves were amazing- amber beat everyone hands down- but even I managed to stand up!!! I know, i nearly fainted!! we are completely taken with it!! so we are now in Byron bay, planning our next couple of days. the hostel here is interesint, you pay for your room, but bedding is not included!! that was a shock!! but its fine. we are opposite this massive backpacked bar where we all have vouchers for a free meal for - cant WAIT!! tomorrow we are taking a trip to Nimbin which is named home of the hippies :D good times, and the day after we are chillig out in byron bay- our hostel provides free surfboard hire so we are going aussie for the day!! anyways this is quite enough, i will update on how it goes! until next time...
