Blah de blah blah.
On the road.

Dearest friends and family, Hee hee. I lied. I'm not quite done with the stories because Sydney has proven to offer alot in terms of fun and entertainment. Sydney's a really pretty city. Alot of the houses are red tile roof in the Victorian style and the harbor is just amazing. (By the way, did I ever mention how ugly and unimaginative the NZ towns were? Talk about blah!) I'm staying in a hostel smack in the middle of downtown Chinatown which is jam packed with hair, nail and massage salons, internet cafes and Gloria Jean Coffees. The weather is nice, warm and sunny, about 67 degrees F and not a cloud in the sky. Yesterday, as I was feeling a little tight in my back and shoulders, I took a yoga class in a ... read more

The last two days I visited the 2 big attractions in the area - the blue mountains and Jenolan caves. Early on Wednesday morning I rented a car with Korhan - a Turkish-American guy, and we made our way to the mountains. Due to a stupid accident (really a small one) it took us quiet a long time and we became hungry. He stopped next to a fish and chips takeaway. It was only 10:30 in the morning... I didn't know then that it wasn't just a coincidence, but this guy is strange about food :-) The Blue Mountains got their name from the blue mist - I didn't find it special but it was nice. The best spot is the "3 sisters" - 3 rock columns, that can be seen from a very convenient lookout ... read more

Last week, my dear friend Edgar from the Phillipines came to visit and we decided to get away for the weekend. Said and done! After picking up the rental car we were off aimlessly.. With no idea of where to go but South we started driving and the pictures are a show you of what kind of places we ended up in and what we did. Just have to mention that the Blue Mountains was a very nice part of the trip with splendid views reminding me of the Grand Canyon. Quelle spectacle!!... read more

I was starting to get a taste for hiking so after coming back to Sydney and meeting with my good Swedish friend Eva, we headed off west 2 hours by train into the Blue mountains to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and into wonderful natural surroundings. The Three Sisters are an aboriginal folk legend and are mountainous peaks standing next to each other at a height of almost a kilometre. Taking the stairs down is not for the faint hearted as it can get very steep at times but once at the bottom of the mountains there are great walks through the forest where you can see lots of wildlife and fortunatly we didnt see any snakes. The best bit is you dont have to walk back up the stairs ... read more

The surfing lesson was a huge success - Laird Hamilton had better watch out. I have to keep convincing Karl he really doesn't need to buy a board though. We slowly made our way down to Sydney via some gorgeous beaches and spent a few days there taking in all the amazing sights. Climbed the Harbour Bridge (after doing a breath test) wearing a boilersuit and attached to a static line. Cooking in the camper went out the window with all the great bars & restaurants. Today was another beautiful day so we spent the morning at Freshwater beach, near Manly, and then drove up here to the Blue Mountains. We're planning a 4 hour bush walk from a place called Blackheath tomorrow so I'll be braving the eight-legged creatures again. Sorry for the lack of ... read more

After arriving in Sydney, we had the pleasure of joining Stuart Kirkwood and family at their lovely home for a barbeque. We first met Stuart when he and "A" were working in Hong Kong. His children Rochelle and Bradley use to come play dress up with the girls. (Sure wish we had the pictures…but they would probably kill us if we posted them!) Stuart, Karen, Rochelle and Bradley were awesome hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. Our hotel was right across the street from the famous Manly Beach. "j" and Dad took surfing lessons and are now gnarly surfer dudes (almost). No we didn’t see a single great white shark. The ferry ride from Manly Wharf into Sydney Harbor is incredible and we enjoyed walking around Circular Quay and Darling Harbor. We toured the world ... read more

Last night Rachel and I met up with Brendan, her friend Debbie's good friend/boyfriend from Sydney. After a seafood dinner at Darling Harbour, and a drink he took us to sleep at his house (real beds!). I was a bit jet lagged and at dinner i had hit this wall where all i wanted to do was sleep. And i slept well! After Rachel and I finally finished planning-- and for the record, i love that girl to death, but we really shouldn't plan things together-- we ate some breakfast. The off to the Blue Mountains. We took lots of photos, hiking down to the 3 sisters, and then down into the rainforest below the orphan. We took a cool cable car back up from the rainforest... it was fun. Next stop, back here so Rachel could do ... read more

I Started the walk at Govetts Leap lookout. Govetts Leap was named after William Govett, one of the first surveyors of the.....oh shit i'm even boring myself... The heat in the blue gum forest is sweltering in the summer, (typically around 50oC) and the trees discharge a mysterious modulating hissing noise akin to an assortment of evil snakes, it creates quite an eerie sinister atmosphere, not good for an invertebrate yellow belly lily-livered gutless wonder. I wondered astray from the designated walking track (doh!) got myself lost and had to spend 2 nights in here and alot of time swearing at trees and bushes......(when you spend 3 hrs hiking through prickly bush and thinking you are getting somewhere only to arrive at the same tree that you left 3 hrs ago, it is infuriating and there ... read more
